Large TV's throughout a store....play ads/videos

What are peeps suggestions for software to do this? A client who has some stores wants to put TVs up in his stores...and play advertisements and videos on them pertaining to his products, sales, promotions, etc.

Guessing probably something run/managed from a local computer. Guessing several TVs throughout the store showing the same thing.

We do this in the office at my 9-5 and use ThinClients and VMWare to log into them from a local machine. As far as the program to reproduce the stuff, it depends on the media. We simply use PowerPoint.

There are a whole variety of Digital Signage vendors out there....I had to research them once for a prospect...you could go that route. Google "Digital Signage" & you'll have tons to wade through...don't recall any particular vendors.

OR, you could purchase some of those ultra-tiny Lenovo PCs, mount one behind each TV and use it as a PC like that....depends exactly what type of media you'd like to play, I suppose.

No clue which route would be more cost effective.

stick an rpi on the back of each one with a wifi dongle then remote in with VNC to configure. Cheap. Quick. Easy.

We have two TVs in our lobby (flush wall-mounted). They are connected to a Mac Mini (mounted on the other side of the wall). One TV shows a looping VLC video in full screen (about 2-3 minutes long). The other just has desktop background set to switch every 30 seconds or so and rotates from around 10-15 hi-res informative graphics. A very easy setup with all free/built-in software/tools to accomplish the job. I've never done digital signage, but on a recent trip to Intel in Swindon (UK), they suggested that their NUC range would be ideal. VESA mount on the back of the monitor, running Windows with PowerPoint Viewer. Plus you'll be able to monitor via N-Able.

Works really well and then just depends on if you want to show the same thing on all tvs or different as to how many pcs/signage players you'll need.

USB storage

You can always create the video and throw them on a usb storage device. Most newer TV's will play video directly from the USB and loop.

Stay away from Visix, support is horrible and the application is not that great either.

That's neat and it looks like it could be fun and easy to do as long as the TV accepts the device.
