Also, never mind entering the key on the bottom during install. Just enter anything which it will take (or nothing) and use the XP key changer later.

And now it just randomly started working and loading Windows XP... FML

I try to do the old activate by phone way and it won't work. Code I have is valid as it's an authentic XP key code on a sticker from the factory at Lenovo.
 
You got it to work? Could have been one of those CDs you were using. Glad it worked out.

Now, as far as changing activation keys, I stay away from doing that sort of thing-:) When tried to do it by phone, did you speak to live person or was it automated?

I think I cheer prematurely... Now I have a 0x00000402 Blue Error Screen to cope with. This thing is going to be the end of me.

It was automated. You know where you click activate, by phone, then change serial, then reboot....
