I have a 2013 Macbook Air where the keyboard and trackpad have stopped working when it boots to OSX.

The laptop came in after liquid was spilled on it few days earlier. The laptop worked fine except the battery was dead, only worked plugged in.

We've opened it up to see damage and cleaned few spots with liquid on them, let it dry over night and next morning had the keyboard-trackpad problems.

The keyboard & Trackpad worked fine before we tore it apart.

I'm quite sure its not a hardware issue as the power button works, can reset SMC with keyboard, can reset PRAM with keyboard, can boot into safemode (hold SHIFT at startup), the keyboard and trackpad works when in the boot selection menu (Hold OPTION at startup), I can use trackpad to select startup device, select network and even enter network name and/or security, so it woks there flawlesly, but as soon as it goes past that and boots to any mode it stops working, if it was hardware issue then it woudn't work at all?

I've tried booting into recovery mode, (no help), tried booting to safemode (no help), tried booting from USB flash drive (no help), i've reinstalled OSX, (no help), i've even tried another HD from exact same model Macbook Air and it doesn't work there either.

I'm stumped, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unplug the kb/mouse and boot up using a regular USB kb and mouse. See what happens. Oops. Never mind. Forgot the power button is on the kb.

Edit: It may be crashing once the kernel get loaded. Boot up into target disk mode, hook up to another Mac and look through the logs to see if you see anything of value. To be honest though, liquid was spilled on it so anything can happen anytime.

I've tried that and i've even tried another Macbook Air keyboard too, no luck.

When running with keyboard-trackpad unplugged the system is very slow and the fan runs at full speed.

What puzzles me, is why both work when in the startup disk mode and why the keyboard works when doing SMC reset, PRAM reset, holding SHIFT to start safemode.

Also the keyboard-trackpad works in diagnostics mode (hold D at startup) I ran it and it passed with only the battery error, nothing else wrong found.

OSX doesnt recognize the built-in keyboard & trackpad installed, it does recognize bluetooth keyboard and mouse as well as usb keyboard & mouse.

I've reinstalled OSX twice and tried another HD (SSD) which has OSX installed from another exact same model & year Macbook Air.
