A client of mine asked me what she would need to get at least one and possibly two external displays. I asked her for the serial number and this model apparently has 4x Thunderbolt USB C ports.

I always get confused with all the revisions of thunderbolt and USB especially in the Mac world.

Technically, while also being quite cumbersome you could get two of these right? then you'd have to manually plug in everytime?

Or ideally a Thunderbolt dock that also powers the laptop would be more ideal I assume since one cable should be able to handle everything? Does anyone have experience in a dock?

Would something like this work with probably at least one Displayport to HDMI cable? I've used it successfully to get 3 external monitors out of a new Thunderbolt equipped Dell Laptop.

If you go for a docking station I would avoid the Dell WD19tb for usage on a mac. It's really designed for Dell Windows computers with Mac compatibility being an afterthought. Limited feature set and I don't think you can even do 2 screens correctly (it mirrors them rather than extending).

Go for something specifically designed for Mac. OWC, Startech, Kensington make some good stuff.
