Just received the latest newsletter from the MS Refurbisher Program and it pretty well defines what is going to happen to Windows 7 H.P. effective July 2016

Guess we better stock up between now and then. Of course Windows 10 will be 'perfected' by then:eek:

While I understand we won't be able to return it, will we still be able to get keys issued for it after July 1, 2016? Not much sense stocking up if MS won't issue keys.

Windows 7 Home Premium... Important Information!
This excerpt is confusing... Now why do we care about Home Premium any longer anyway? From what I understand from reading the last brief that we received months ago, we are allowed to upgrade XP and Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Pro...

I suspect what they are referring to is this... "if you have purchased Windows 7 Home Premium COA's (since we were required to upgrade Home Premium to Win 7 Home Premium in the past) and have them in your stock, make sure you deplete them by July 1, 2016 as you will no longer be able to use those COA to obtain keys through the system".

Does anyone have a different take on this?

Personally, we have never ordered the Home Premium so we have no stock on hand.

So are you saying we can upgrade to 7 Pro now from Vista Basic say whereas as before it could only go to Home Premium?

I've never had any issue changing from 32 bit to 64 bit. I've rebuilt larger XP machines moving them to Pro without any issue in obtaining the key. Just punch in the old XP serial number and new Pro number and done. Maybe the restriction was a while ago?

In v4 of the agreement it stated that
2.6 Installation of Windows Operating System Software. Refurbisher may only install Windows Operating System Software in accordance with the following table. This section does not apply to Citizenship Licenses.

Windows XP Starter Edition / Windows Vista Starter / Windows 7 Starter / Windows 95/Windows 98/ Windows Millennium (Me) Edition/Windows XP Home Edition/Windows Vista Home Basic/Windows Vista Home Premium/Windows 7 Home Premium/Windows 8/Windows 8.1

that only Windows 7 home premium could be installed as a refurb coa. Pro was not elgible.

Whereas Windows 2000/Windows XP Professional/Windows Vista Business/Windows Vista Ultimate/Windows 7 Professional/Windows 7 Ultimate/Windows 8 Pro/Windows 8.1 Pro

Could be upgraded to either Premium or Pro.

On v5 of the agreement, this table is missing.

I have just emailed the MS refurb dept with the question.

Will post back when I get a reply.

I would say yes, we can upgrade to pro for all licences, but without having it in black and white, I would not stand by my words.. :/

Thanks Nige that would make it a bit easier

None of us are also allowed to reinstall Windows, even the same version, on any computer with a valid COA attached unless we have the "original recovery media" or "original hard-disk recovery image" if we're all to follow the strict letter of the MS law. All those corporate off-lease systems with Win 7 COAs are all invalid unless you can obtain the original recovery media. :)

Meanwhile on CL in just about any town in this Country there are ads offering Win7, Win8 and now Win10 upgrades on any computer for $20-$50 a piece. Some of these guys have been doing it for years. In our local one we have guys selling T43s with licensed Win10 installations now. :D

Any news on this Nige? As you say the chart that was on page 19 of V4 of the refurb document is missing on page 21/22 of v5. It would make life easier and clearer if we can just use the pro licence.
