Missing .qbw company file after windows 10 reset (keep my files)

Since they added the in-program way to send the file, you just set the "division date" or whatever it's called. The accountant can only change things before that date and you can continue working on the file for entries after that date. When the accountant is done, you use that same in-program method to merge the accountant's changes to your live file. Your live file never leaves your computer and you don't have to worry about it's location changing.

The QBW file is just a data file, not too much unlike a word document. Just have to think of it that way, much like MS Word...the "MRU" list (most recently used" list.

UPDATE:

Thankfully the external backup they have has good recent backups that were actually kept up pretty well. Thank you for all the replies. I just put them back to the default location when restoring the company file within quickbooks.

Hope you are charging for all this work. If they are not wanting to pay I would tell them to check the backup on Monday and let me know if you need me to do more work.

I just ended up shutting the computer down and waited until I got their external. If there was no backups on the external then I was going to do the clone. Thankfully they had the proper recent backups to make this quicker and easier.

Be sure remind them THIS why you need to keep backups. Have them imagine what would of happened if they did not have that backup.;)
