I have a Client that has a Cisco Air-lap 1041n-a-k9 access point. I have no manual or anything to tell me how to login to this access point. Does anybody have any experience with these access point?

Thanks for your help,

Donny Pangle

Do you know the management IP and login of the access point? If so you should be able to access it via https://management_ip

That model also has a console port so you can get access to it directly with a console cable.

I have deployed a ton of these. Your best bet is to use the gui unless your familiar with the CLI. The default username/password is usually Cisco. The older AP's used to get an ip via dhcp by default but the new ones don't do this. I would try gaining access via the console port. From there you can assign an ip to the BVI interface for management, then enable the http service if not already enabled. Here is a getting started guide for that ap. If they run cisco switches you can also find the ip of the AP via cdp.

also, not sure if this one is the same. Sometimes I have trouble accessing it until I reset it, and reapply settings.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried all weekend to get into this access point. No Luck yet. You mentioned the gui in your earlier post. How do i get to the gui in this access point?

Thanks,
Donny

In order to get to the gui, the http service on the AP needs to be enabled. There also needs to be an ip address assigned to the BVI interface. HTTP access also requires privilege 15 access. Your best bet is to scan your local network and try to find the ip of the AP. From there you could try logging into the web interface. If you dont know the local username/password (if using AAA) or the local username and privilege exec password it doen't do you much good. Do you have a backup of the current config? If so you can just reset it to defaults. If you dont have a backup of the config then password recovery is your only option.

The LAP in the model number means it is a Lightweight Access Point. This means it is intended to be used in combination with a Cisco WLC (WLAN Controller), not as a standalone AP.

You will be able to access it via the Console port though, but I don't think you'll have a lot of options there.

If there is no way of returning it, you'll need to convert it back to Autonomous mode by TFTP, but you'll probably need a valid CCO account to obtain the image.

Is it possible your customer has ordered the wrong type of AP, or is it already in use? If so, you should start looking for the IP address of the Wireless Controller, which handles all the control data. It should be in the comms room :)
