Network Cable Tester

Hi guys, how you doing?

Ive' bought a network cable tester last year from ebay, it was cheap. It's like this one:

The problem is that I can't understand its result. First of all, you can choose 'ON' or 'S', which I presume is for Sound (btw, it has no manual).

Then, it has numbers from 1 to 8 and a G, on both the Master and Remote. Yesterday I've tried to use it and the LED started to flash from 1 till 8 and back again into an infinite loop.

Numbers from 1 to 6 have a sort of bracket (grouped or something). My bet is that the test should at least pass number 6. But I'm not sure.

Do you have any ideas?

Nah, the brand is in chinese lol And the numbers result nothing: ZL 02 3 13103.9 :| haha

Try it on a known good cable and a known bad one. The lights should blink sequentially showing that that strand is good. G is for ground which won't apply in most cases.

I've tried it on a short cable and a long cable which I did myself long time ago.

Using the short cable, the lights kept looping. Using the long cable the lights kept looping as well, but the receiver kept skipping some numbers. Choosing 'S', the loop was slower (at least that's what I think). Maybe the 'S' is for 'slow'. Don't know.

I should learn to get quality products not made in china with no manuals. Actually, the battery is more expensive than the tester itself LOL.

Model numbers?

I think the numbers ZL 02 3 13103.9 is a patent number, to see what I mean search for "Patent No. ZL 02 3" it doesn't help you use the tester but if you can find who the patent belongs to then they should have a manual.

A. Functions:

1. Can test correspondingly double-twisted cables 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and G, meanwhile can judge wrong connection, short circuit and open circuit.

2. NS-468 tests BNC, RJH and RJ45; NS-468 tests RJ11 and RJ45; NS-468N tests RJ45 and BNC, ST-248 tests RJ45 and BNC.

B. Test of double-twisted cables; Switch on the power. (s is slow and remote tester. The lights of the main tester will turn on.
Sequentially from 1 to G.

Main tester: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-G
Remote tester: 1-4-3-2-5-6-7-8-G

Following are abnormal connections:

1. If one cable, for example cable NO. 3 is open circuited, the two NO. 3 lights of the main tester and remote tester will not turn on.

2. If several cables are not connected, several lights will not turn on respectively. If less than two cables are connected, none of the lights is on.

3. If two ends of a cable is disordered, for example NO. 2 and NO. 4, then displays on:

Main tester: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-G
Remote tester: 1-4-3-2-5-6-7-8-G

4. If two cables are short circuited, neither of the corresponding lights is on of the remote tester while main tester remains unchanged. If three cables, including three, are short circuited, none of the corresponding lights is on.

C. If test patch panels or wall plate outlets, two cables which can match each other (eg110 P4 and RJ45) will be connected to the tester.

D. If test cables of the same axes, BNC turns on when the cable works.

So, if the 'remote' is skipping some of the numbers, this means that some are shorting at the 'remote' end of the cable right?

The tester cycles through the lights 1 to 8 or so. They need to light up at the same time

So number 1 on both the master and remote end must light up at the same time. This indicates a working cable (1 of 8 anyway)

If one lights up and the matching number doesn't, this indicates its not contacting somewhere. It may be a break in the wire somewhere in the middle or even in the plug.
If it doesnt light up on the remote end, it doesnt mean the issue is at the remote end, it can be anywhere on that particular wire.

If say, number 1 it up and number 6 lit up at the same time, this probably means that the cable was made incorrectly (for straight-through RJ-45 anyway)

Your network tester works like this the 1 - 6 tests rj11 net cable when all six are lit on master unit and remote unit all is ok.
from 1 - 8 is for rj45 net cable when all lit all is ok. the G is for ground
