So - interesting little scenario today - hopefully this can help out someone else.

Customer bought a brand new ASUS Vivobook - wanted it fresh installed with Windows 11 - and to bypass the MS account garbage.

Booted to freshly made Win11 install from rufus - had to install Intel 19.5 rst driver in order to find the SSD - found it..... now here is where it got interesting.

It wouldn't let me delete the partition... option was grayed out. Said something like: Windows 11 cant be installed here because the drive is MBR instead of GPT - which is nonsense....

I restarted with my Windows 10 stick, had to install rst driver again - and then showed the SSD drive fine... was able to delete all partitions.

Restart with Windows 11 stick, install RST - and then presto - install worked....

What a pain in the butt!!!!

Some laptops come "Pre-Installed" as the O/S is partly installed and the user would go through the general process of creating network, user etc.

This may have been held at that point with the MBR {Boot Partition} and the partition may have been "locked".

Of course - the OOBE..

Seems odd that the windows 10 install media had no issues deleting partitions while the windows 11 one did.

The Windows 11 setup has other issues, such as showing the USB install media in the list of partitions (I've never tried deleting the USB partitions to see what happens). Also deleting partitions takes a few seconds but no hourglass or disabling of controls, during that time one can select another partition and I think that action cancels the partition deletion.

It wouldn't surprise me if there are other more obscure bugs in it. Even Microsoft aren't confident in the new setup screens considering they include a button to switch to the old setup design!

Yes I HATE seeing the USB stick in the partition list!

I must have rushed through it - because I missed the button to revert back to the old setup. Will look for that next time.
