Odd behavior/Dell laptop battery

I had a Dell Inspiron N7110 in the shop for screen/battery replacement. Since it is an older model, I completely disassembled it for cleaning, replaced CMOS batt, new thermal paste, like I normally do with laptop repairs..

Back together, runs like a dream, except for one oddity; Every couple of boots, the CMOS seems to lose its memory, and prompts you to hit F2/reset everything.. The CMOS batt is good, I know that. The client wanted to save a few bucks and purchased a generic (main) battery, 11.1 volt, instead of OEM. I have done this in the past with no issues.

What do you guys think? Would a non-OEM battery cause the BIOS to lose its settings every few boot ups?

Thank you, CB. It did not exhibit any odd behavior previously, in my shop. This seems to be a "new" thing. Will proceed with testing.

Update: Client was away on vacation for awhile, so I never got the laptop back for testing. Now, they tell me it is working fine, holding the BIOS time, no odd behavior. So, I guess we will chalk this one up to one of the odd mysteries of the universe, lol. they are a good client, I've known the family for years, so no reason to suspect anything on their part....of course you never know.
