Pics of your Work Areas!

Thanks Steve, we've been in this location for nearly 2 years now and we're slowly getting it into shape. Still lots more planned for it yet!

Not as good as a few here with storefronts (I envy you majorly). I run my business out of my garage (one side of it), but I think it looks pretty good. Of course it's not as good as I would like. I simply used countertop's from Lowes/Home Depot and 4 Rubbermaid Base Cabinets. I have an 8 port KVM switch under the countertop where I sit, all cables ran behind the base cabinets, gigabit ethernet on each station, and the bench can work on 7 computers at a time (connected).

Nicest garage setup I have ever seen. :)

Really great setup for a garage

Are these the Rubbermaid cabinets? http://www.amazon.com/Rubbermaid-7085-Base-Cabinet/dp/B0000DCBLTv

What did they run you? Look pretty spendy online

Thanks!

That link isn't working for me for some reason (the 'v' on the end I believe). I actually purchased mine from Ace Hardware online and had them shipped free to the local Ace Hardware store. I ended up getting them for about $70 each back then, but that's jumping through some hoops.

It looks like amazon has them for $89.99 a piece with free shipping - which is a good price. The reason why these are a little spendier is it's 1) heavy duty, 2) chemical resistant, and 3) supports up to 335 lbs each! These things are very tough to break.

The major reason why I purchased these specifically is the size. It measured perfectly for a countertop at Lowes/Home Depot. it has enough room on the back side of it to run cables, but the countertop sits on these and becomes very sturdy when pushed up against a wall. Plus I like the fact that the space underneath the bench is all shelving that is hidden and lockable. It extends the "clean" look even further.

A friend of mine who weighs about 200 lbs jumped on the counter on top of my base cabinets and ran down the countertop. Not a single cabinet broke or moved. I really couldn't be happier with this purchase ;) It's good to know when you have 8 or so really heavy servers sitting on the bench, nothing will give way. Below is the link for the cheapest I can find it for:

I also have a couple of the tall Rubbermaid cabinets on the other side of my garage, but those are double the price as these ($169.99 a piece and located here: http://www.amazon.com/Rubbermaid-7083-72-Inch-Four-Shelf-Double-Door/dp/B0000DCBMG)

That's a solid, professional looking set up Jeff. I don't doubt you could make the transition to a storefront when you get the opportunity.

Thanks, maybe some day I'll have my chance to do that. I work full time at Intel and this is my side business - hopefully I can grow it big enough in the future to hire people and open a storefront. Time and patience I imagine ;)

I've always worked out of a spare bedroom in my house but 4 months ago my 2nd child was born and it was decided by my wife and I that the office should be given to my older son and turned back into a bedroom and the youngest have the older sons current bedroom.

In my garden I have a brick outhouse that has been used as a shed. It's not the biggest space in the world (10 foot x 6 foot)but as the majority of my work is carried out on site I don't need a huge area so i decided to have it converted to an office.

I'm really pleased with how it has turned out! I still have a huge storage cupboard in the house so it means that the only things in here are what I am working on.

Very nice job. I have a garage conversion 18' x 8' that I work in. I wish I was as tidy as some of the techs on here then I could post a photo :o The problem is I have never had it empty so I could structure it how I want i.e. lots more power points, ethernet sockets etc so there are wires everywhere.

Very nice garage conversion. I wish mine was as tidy as some of these shown here also. But with pc's laptops, and everything associated close by, its hard to keep things in their place all the time. Especially cables.. im horrid for that. Oops.. also paperwork. I detest character building aka filing with a passion.

Nothing is shown where clients can see it, but still I know its not where it should be, ie filed away lol.

Very very tidy, I started a bodge on the shed once, but it is the size of a standard coal shed, can't think of the measurements, but I would guess around 10ft long and 5 6 foot wide. I got as fire as putting electrics in (well a bodge, I ran a 13 amp cable from a plug socket in my room and then put a double socket in the shed, and also ran an Ethernet cable there.

I put tiles on the rotting ceiling to hide it, and painted it all white. It all looked quite good, until I started working in it and realised it was too small.

I really love the way your conversation has turned out, but the cost must have been huge if you had to get traders in to do the work. It really does like its been done 100% properly with no corners cut though. I like it.

I know what you mean. My old office was a right mess most of the time and I think alot of it was because I had to much floor space in there! If I could see a gap I would dump something there! Starting afresh and having limited space allowed me to really plan out how to utilise the space and get plenty of power points and Ethernet points in!

Ahhh cables and paperwork. My 2 big hates!

Yes I've had a proper job done and it wasn't cheap but it will be well worth it.
Despite the small space I could still quite happily work on 6-8 desktops (KVMs FTW!) and 4-6 laptops. The only thing lacking in here is storage space for parts etc. but I still have space in the house for that!

That a really nice little workshop, well done fixedathome :D

I hope you have replaced that old braced and batton door though. If you haven't done it may also be worth getting it alarmed and some cameras put up.

I am hoping to do something simliar when we move house, my pre-requisites for the new home require either outbuildings, or a brick garage which can be extended.

So Jealous :D

That looks really smart.

I really want to gut my work area out and start again, but the problem is finding time and where to put everything while I do the work.

Yep the door has been replaced and I have it alarmed.
