Pics of your Work Areas!

So we finally had a few slow days and got pretty caught up with our current work load, which means I had a few minutes today to take pictures of our work area. As you will see, its nothing like our lobby / retail area . . . :D

This is our main work area. The stacks of laptops you see in the corner is a few of the laptops we have purchased recently for parts or refurbishing. Most everything else is being worked on except for the desktops under the counter that need recycling.

Just another angle of the main work area.

This area is what used to be part of our reception pickup / drop off point. We had to close it off and make it part of the shop to make room for repairs. On the left side we do mostly cell phone and mobile device repairs. The middle section is where we check in all parts, retail, RMA, etc. The area on the right is where we do the work that requires lots of space like breaking down larger laptops (such as the G73 in the corner), desktops and gaming consoles. To see pictures of what it was before we made it part of the shop, go here. Its the area behind the original counter and window.

Normally, there is a bit more going on here, but this is our diagnostic area. Most of these laptops are running memtest86+ or our motherboard diagnostic. The hard drive tests get done in a different part of the shop on one machine.

And this messtrocity is my office area . . . sorta.

I am a firm believer in sticky notes . . . . they are everywhere if you look carefully. :D

This room is way to small to get a good picture, but this is where all the computers, cell phones, mobile devices, etc. wait for parts or response (permission to go ahead with repairs). We also store packing materials in here as well. Several of those boxes are more laptops that we have purchased for parts or refurbs.

And this is another small room like the one above used for computers, cell phones, mobile devices, etc. that are waiting for pickup.

And then there is another room in the back that used for accounting and inventory.

Not really a pic of the entire work area, just one of our desktop benches (we have 2 total). I took this yesterday because I thought it was odd that we were working on more desktops than laptops at the time.

EDIT: I am not able to post pics yet, but it can be seen at: alphageeks.biz/IMAG0127.jpg

I am moving the shop about Nov 1st this year, and will post pics of the new digs once we move in.

Here's an update now that my room is pretty well 95% finished. Fully functional now. Only thing left to do is put up a couple more shelves, and get electricity to the wall to the left in the first pic. Until then it's still a great space for things like laptop disassembly.

Computers under the counter are waiting to be parted out/pieced together into used computers.

Center island with two tech machines, a server, and a collection of usb drives with various tools on them. By far the messiest right now, I need to clean it up again.

Coming along nice Mania.

We're doing a huge party at our offices...to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Catering, bar, tents outside, giving away restaurant certificates and a brand new computer, other door prizes. Invites sent out through all the local Business Chamber events calendars and BNI chapters.

Fixing up our offices nicely for that...will take some pics and post here when they're fixed up.

Woohoo! I'm coming up on 10 years in May. Been trying to decided what to do.

This is where I get the vast majority of my work done while at work...

It is where I am at now...

I do ALL my work on the left computer (Windows 7), but I keep the right computer as a legacy reference point for Windows XP because a good portion of our network still runs it...

I also often use the right computer if I am helping the guys out and want to remote control a computer to assist someone, so I can continue to work on the left one... Both have a 27" 1920 x 1200 display. The one on the left is a Dell Optiplex 790 with an i5 and 8 GB of DDR3, and the one on the right is an older Dell Optiplex 760 with a Q9550 and 4 GB DDR2.

Both are on our Gigabit network authenticated with 802.1x. I also manage our have N-Wireless with WPA2-AES, RADIUS, PEAP, MS-CHAPv2 (for laptops), and Cisco AnyConnect VPN on our ASA firewall, Microsoft SCCM, Microsoft SCVMM, Hyper-V, Server 2008 R2 and Server 2012, Active Directory, Data Protection Manager... System Center 2012 End Point Protection.

I don't really work on a lot of computers... it hasn't been my job since 2007. Now I have other people for that :-) but I still help out sometimes.

My office is in one of the two bedrooms in my apartment. When I work on a
desktop I put it to the left of the desk, in the corner, and connect it to the
external monitor. If I have a laptop I'll either put it on the desk or bring in
a work surface.

A shot of my bedroom/living room.
Picked up a 60" Vizio on Black Friday :D

Techpro posted this awsome testing rig in another thread here, check it out if you haven't already:

That's a "cute little thing" but I prefer to do it the old fashioned way with a cardboard box for the m/board to sit on / hang over (for the boards plugged into slots). When I need to test a m/board that is the way I do it and it doesn't cost anything more than what I have laying around. Perhaps someday I shall post pics of my work area as well as my test bench layout for hard drive & memory testing. ATM I haven't quite got all the room that I (really) need for what I do.

Cheerio ;):):)

Some of your workstations are just too sterile.

A tidy workshop is the sign of a sick mind.

So..... Seeing that I have a particularly sick mind, that blows that argument out of the water.

My only defence is that I'm in the middle of reorganising everything.

And,.......As you probably realise, chances are that I'll never complete this, and this is the way it will stay.

Welcome to my converted garage / world.

Like the organised chaos theory there my friend :)

I like to think if you have a tidy workbench, then your not busy working ll. although a nice tidy bench is nice for clients to see, rather than pices if computers and laptops all open.. Swings n roundabouts.
