Hi All

Firstly, sorry if this is posted in the wrong section, if so please let me know & I'll move it.

Here is my situation. I was just out at my local fruit/veg shop & noticed one of the managers frantically trying to fix his POS terminal. They asked me if I fixed things like this (they know I do computer repair) I had to be honest & say I didn't provide POS repair services at this stage, which opened my eyes to the opportunity of POS repair & how it could expand my business.

Does anyone have any advice how to tap into the POS repair market? I admit I don't know anything about what type's of POS software are out there, what the common ones are & the typical errors & issues POS terminals/software encounter. I do provide ATM service & repair & have a good understanding of ATM software/hardware, not sure if that helps...

I would love to get some advice from my fellow Technibble members on learning the software POS terminals use & how to go about servicing/repairing/installing these systems.

No magic in tapping into the POS market. Many POS systems are just computer systems with point of sale peripherals (bar code scanners, receipt printers, registers, pole displays) connected. Can be set up stand alone for small biz's...or networked for larger ones with several registers and a back office.

We take care of a few package stores and restaurants.
You don't "need to know" the POS software itself....it's our job to interface with the support people of that POS software. Computer problems, network problems, peripheral troubleshooting....we can figure all that out. Problem within the POS software itself...just call up their support, talk with them..and since we "speak the same language"...solve it for your client.

Over time you'll start to get a little familiar with the POS software itself.
