RDP Printing Issue

Windows 7 Pro, fully updated, logging into a Windows 7 Pro, fully updated workstation.

HP MFP M426f PCL 6 driver (same) installed on both machines.

When you connect w/ RDP 8.1 (6.3.9600) or with MS RDCManager 2.7 (1406.0) it correctly installed the "redirected" printer.

When you print from the remote system it sends the print command to the local machine, and you can see the print job in the local queue. Then it disappears. Nothing prints.

And to know if it prints I need to call and ask them (since I am also remotely servicing this location via LMI).

Thoughts? Great solutions?

Grateful for any insight!

On the local machine (i.e., where you initiate the RDP session and on the same network as the target printer):

Code:
The HP LaserJet Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 5 time(s).

Code:

Besides the event viewer to see if it printed, if it's a network-connected printer just connect to its web interface and monitor supplies status - that should show you pages printed.

No other great suggestions right now

Two options.

1. Not all printer port types are redirected. You may need to do this: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...that-do-not-begin-with-com-lpt-or-usb-are-not

2. If the problem persists then I would install the printer as an IP printer on both machines and then disable printer redirection. If local and remote machines are on different networks, you may need to forward in TCP 9100 to the printer through the firewall and use the static public IP in the printer driver as the IP address (or set up a dynamic DNS service and use that hostname) on one of the machines.

thank you all!

Try the HP Universal Print Driver

Did not work, unfortunately.

@TurricanII - interesting link! I didn't try this as we set the printer up as a Google Printer and it will bridge this problem for now.

I have asked that they just get a $200 laser printer and we can use that.

The Brother MFC that this HP replaced is also still on premise and it works with remote printing without issue.

About 6 hours invested (all after hours) and a tough problem to crack.
