Got a client who needs to be able to scan multiple documents and have them saved as pdf's, or combine say a word document with pics to create a pdf document?

Suggestions on what program to use? Adobe Acrobat my only option or are there others? I rarely if ever make pdf's, so I'm flying blind.

Personally I use Omnipage Pro, very flexible if you have a recent scanner that it recognises which is probably its only flaw for me. It can be fussy on scanners.

One of my customers bought a reconditioned HP 9100C off eBay for $300 or so. It's really nice if you have a lot to do. Althogh the software is old, it still works fine in compatibility mode on W7.

Most scanners come with software that give you a choice to save document as a .PDF or .TIFF.
Does you customer already have a scanner? Model?

If not and they want buy a system I highly recommend the Fujitsu Scansnap systems for businesses. They start out at $400 and go up from there.
Solid gear and software.

Yes sir, they its an hp 3390 I believe... but there is no driver software for W7. I should clarify this, there are print drivers, but the provided scanning software doesn't work.

I am to the point that I hate HP!
I have two Laserjet 3055's that I cant use because HP won't update the software to work with anything newer that XP SP1
I just don't recommend them anymore.

MS Word can be saved as a PDF file. If your client is using MS Office 2007 and doesn't have the add-on, it can be downloaded here.

I personally use the Fujitsu ScanSnap S15100M. What I like about it is that I can scan multiple pages as a single PDF file. It's a lot easier to use than my old flatbed scanner.

Here's an alternative to Adobe Acrobat Pro.

I use Xerox DocuMate with PaperPort software very easy to use and start around $350

I usually do it the cheap and easy way, install cutepdf writer
http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp
it'll install a pdf print driver
youll also need to install Ghostscript converter
http://www.cutepdf.com/download/converter.exe

then i scan my documents, to a folder, when done, select all and print.
I select the cutepdf writer as the printer and it creates a pdf of my scanned files

youll have to mess with dpi settings to get a smaller pdf size if they are needing to email them

works with win7 too
