I have done some googling, but have not found an answer I feel sure about. I have just started experimenting with smartcl. I found this same error on a new laptop that I sold where a client was having some occasional crashes. I also found this today on a new machine we are diagnosing. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I ran this hard drive test directly from the laptop(not easy to remove).

type "interface crc error, command aborted"

below is the exact output from the log file

That hard drive is fine according to SMART, it did have an error about 1/8 into it's lifetime so far, which could have just been from it being shaken.

No Reallocated events or sectors, everything else looks good.

Run a long read test if you are still unsure, it will take about an hour or two.

Little more thorough...

5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 0x0033 100 100 050 Pre-fail Always - 0

The data field here says 0, that means there are 0 Reallocated sectors, yay.

9 Power_On_Hours 0x0032 078 078 000 Old_age Always - 9191

The computer has been on for 9191 hours

12 Power_Cycle_Count 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 1764

This is how often the computer has been turned off or on (or hibernated). ~9 hours per power cycle, this is a business computer isn't it?

194 Temperature_Celsius 0x0022 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 33 (Min/Max 4/46)

4 Degrees Celsius, someone left it in their car overnight? Jeez

196 Reallocated_Event_Count 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0

This means how many ATTEMPTS there have been to reallocate sectors, again 0 attempts, this is good.

This is a loggged error, again probably just being dropped or jostled sometime in the past, usually if you are having hard drive problems you will see quite a few more of these and more recently, notice the HOUR it happened, quite a while ago.

You did 2 short tests very recently and they passed, yay. Run a long test if you still suspect the drive.
