Snappy Driver Installer

I downloaded and tried it on a test machine. Looks encouraging. Grateful that it doesn't do all the Russian malware/adware/bloatware/OEM rebranding shenanigans that Driverpack solutions does.

Just tested it with two systems. Blue screen due to driver incompatibility, and second system failed with bad drivers. Used system restore to bring it back up.

Advised to watch what is being updated (Especially chipset drivers) and ensure that system restore has been recently created. Unfortunately it looked promising but I cannot foresee it being any benefit past already initial installation of hardware, then manual updating for particular issues. Will probably save a lot of time for those wiping systems and looking to reinstall ASAP with any drivers.

Thanks for the initial recommendation though, worth a shot.

After trying a few times, it is now in my "Go To" options.

Working great with no issues so far.

Harold

The first laptop I used it with had all sorts of problems which I found were related to some of the drivers (mostly chipset) which I was allowing to be automatically installed. Once I passed on those drivers all was good again.

I've been using it with Dell Optiplex 980 SFF's without any issues. It sure has made the reload go faster! But there are times when you've got to be sure you want to install all of the drivers.

I give it 1 &1/2 thumbs up.

I tested it twice didnt notice any issues and it was very fast. however did a hitman pro scan and it marked alot of it. second question is how does this get updated? thanks

I've tried it on about 6 or 7 laptops, no issues at all. It didn't have the touchscreen drivers for an HP AIO desktop, but that isn't a surprise. Love that it can do them all in one go. We used to just have device manager scour our accumulated "Drivers" folder on our external hdd, and had to do each device one by one.

I've tried it on my personal desktop computer, find few drivers for update. Everything goes fine except bluetooth driver - BSOD appeared.
I use SysRestore to go back in time just before install bluetooth drivers.

Ok so how do you update the driverpacks? Today it lists 15 packs needing updates. I click on that a box opens that allows me to select which ones, I click OK the box goes away and then nothing...

Where it says to update (click here) top middle right.

Select the boxes you want to update.

Click accept.

WAIT....................mine took a few minutes to connect.

When updates are done, click ok and box closes.

Close program and reopen using the new version which will be in the same folder as the old version.

Seems to take a while to connect. Make sure, nothing is blocking the connection (firewall, security, etc.)

Wow. Nothing like those times.

Mine took at most 3 minutes to connect.

Are you sure something is not blocking the connection?

Harold

Ok,

Just did another driver update (1) and it took about 4 min to connect and start.

Are you seeing any progress in the blue box ( % done, etc.)?

Maybe try just one update and see what happens.

Harold

From its logs it uses bittorrent. Not going to work without knowing what ports to forward.

So far my Google Fu has failed to answer that. Guess I'm going to have to run a packet sniffer on it to figure out what it is trying to connect to. :(

While we were proponents of Speedy Driver a while back in the last couple of uses it seems to be behaving strangely. The updates were really smooth to do several weeks ago but now, like Nline we are experiencing strange behaviors. I can't put my finger on it but it just doesn't seem to be operating as smoothly as it was.

FYI. Port 50171 is the port used by the bittorrent updater that is built into it.

Setup the port on my firewall and now it is updating.
