A customer had upgraded from xp to 7 a few years ago (paid a technician to perform upgrade). No problems since. Suddenly upon booting Windows displays that it is not genuine and that he may be a victim of counterfeiting. I've ran several malware scans without turning up much and problem persists. Done a lot of web searching, but all I can seem to find is information about Windows Server. This is a home PC so no server involved. When I click on "Go online and resolve" the validation fails with an error message of "an error has occurred in the script on this page."

What information can I provide?

Run these instructions and post the log here.

My guess is that the intel rapid storage drivers are out of date OR the "tech" used an activation hack or a "not for sale" MSDN key.

Is this a business or home computer?

If it is home it is COUNTERFIT/CRACKED?Bootleg.

It is a home computer. He said he paid someone with a local shop to come out. Are you saying it is indeed bootleg? Any idea why it worked this long and now suddenly this. One message I got did say something to the effect of the license ending or something of the like, can't recall exact verbiage.

He said he paid someone with a local shop to come out.
Typical pizza tech.
Are you saying it is indeed bootleg?
With out a doubt. Bet my life on it.
Any idea why it worked this long and now suddenly this.
MS or his security software finally caught the hack/activation exploit.

See these all the time when some "tech" or friend of the family who "knows" about computers does work on them.

Porthos nailed it. The tech must have used corporate keys that were valid years back.

See how easy it is once you learn what the logs mean. You would have run around in circles running security software and checkdisk ect.

Learn what the activation status is "really" first.
