Got the new ones in from the early bird store.
The "new and improved" Cloud Key Gen2 (UCK-G2) is roughly the same size as the original CK, just has more "heft". Has a power button that does a "safe shutdown", ETH interface, alternate power input, and a mini SD card slot for the backups much like the first gen model. Also has an LED readout on the other end. And on the back (or belly)...a connector called a "rack link" for a new 1U rack mount module.
This new model is supposed to have an improved storage system, enhanced by a battery backup to prevent "rude shutdowns" which plagued the first generation models by corrupted the database when used by people who were not aware of the need to gracefully shut it down before unplugging its power source. On the first gen models if you unplugged it from the POE switch or external power adapter, the "mongo database" had a high probability of becoming corrupted, and the CK would appear to be broken. It was usually easily fixed by a couple of different methods...but many people that never learned how to gracefully shut them down before transporting them or redoing things ended up frustrated when they wouldn't boot up the controller on the next power up.
And next is the new hybrid unit, the Cloud Key Gen2 Plus (UCK-G2-PLUS) which starts with the Cloud Key Gen2..and adds a 1TB HD with more CPU and RAM and a Unifi Video Controller for their security camera system. Same features on the back and front as the Gen2....but on its bottom in addition to the rack link connector there is a slide release button to pop out the 2.5" HDD sled so you can swap drives (upgrade, replace, etc). The bundled drive is a Toshiba biz class model. I'd prefer to see an enterprise grade model (5 year >1 million MTBF rating..but we'll likely be swapping with an SSD anyways. It's 48v for POE.
Both arrive in the fancy packaging which is typical of Ubiquitis products (thanks to it's roots in Apple), and the Plus model comes with a few decales for UniFi Protect...their new video software.
Absent were the micro sd cards such as those that came with the original first gen UCK...as well as the stubby stiff little 6" patch cords that we usually discarded and swapped out with a 1 footer.
