Very Strange Problem with the Internet Across all Browsers

Control Panal ---> Internet Options ---> Connections Tab ---> Lan Settings.

Any proxies running? Specifically 127.0.0.1

if so uncheck all boxes see if the problem goes away.

This really should be a standard check but I've had a "duh" moment with it before so I offer it just incase.

Also, I reseted IE and that turned everything back to default so it must not be the settings. -> With IE9 it reinstalled a fresh copy of IE and fixed the problem.

If I could have reinstalled IE8 that prolly woulda fixed it too, BUT I don't think I can do that (came default with Win 7).

We already tried uninstalling it by unticking it in the "Turn Windows features on or off" window. All it did was disable it; not uninstall it.
It was re-enabled and the bookmarks were still there, which leads me to believe that it wasn't uninstalled. And, the problems did not go away.

You are correct, unticking it in 'Turn Windows features on or off' will not uninstall IE8, but if you had read the link it showed you how to uninstall it, and not just removed the link.

My teacher thinks something may have happened to some of the components of Internet Explorer. He installed IE 9 beta and everything works fine now.

Wow, so instead of fixing the issue, your tutor has simply had you cover it over by installing IE9 which is a Beta.

None of us could figure out what could be causing the problem. All tips given in this thread did not fix IE. Installing IE 9 DID fix the problem and the owner was informed that it was still in beta and to install the stable version once it's released. Google Chrome is also installed on the system. Everything works great now.

Similar issue

I had a similar issue a few weeks back. Deleted cookies and temp Internet files and everything worked again. Simple fix.

Ran CCleaner and reset IE, which both remove those two things.

Check TCPIP Stack reset, flush dns, run combofix latest, clear TEMP with ATF cleaner all users, check DNS settings on your router and locally, if wireless ensure security, check hosts, check traffic routing, finally registry.

Flushed DNS -> didn't help

Did a crap load of virus scans -> 0 infections found

DNS settings were set to automatic

DNS settings on router are auto, but irrelevant in this situation
because the problem happens on any network

Registry -> Don't know what I need to check

I haven't seen this before. However, given that Chrome automatically includes its own JavaScript engine, flash plug-in etc. and also the fact that FaceBook and other sites were missing scripted elements it appears that these were somehow disabled/deleted for IE.

netsh int ip reset intip.log
netsh winsock reset winsock.log
shutdown -t 0 -r

^^^ That resets the TCP/IP stack.

When I reseted IE it should have re-enabled those things (unless it was deleted maybe not), but installing IE9 took care of the problem.

I came across an article that had me entering the DNS flush command
and I believe the command ur giving me now.

Have you tried disabling all IE pluggins via AutoRuns?

Next step for me would be running gmer, MBRCheck, and a run with Combofix.

Most AVs aren't going to find a rootkit.
