Greetings once again,

I have windows XP, 2000, Win7 CD's but not Vista.

The dilemma is that I was in the middle of doing a repair installation of windows vista (I should have done a clean install) and upon the reboot that it normally does the error message said

The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows click OK to restart the computer, and then restart the installation

The problem I have is that on this PC to getinto the recovery utility I presss F8 which brings me to another menu. From this second menu I choose repair windows. However, I select it and it brings me back to the same screen.

The ability of the menu to get into the the main recovery screen is messed up.

If I had the installation CD's I could fix it. I have a copy of the Vista's System Recovery, however, it does not find anything wrong with the installation. I am not able to get into windows even in safe mode.

The installation is basically messed up because of the required reboot. And the installation need to complete upon reboot but some error is preventing it.

I've tried all options in the Vista System Recovery to fix the issue. The only other option is to get into the command prompt using the tool.

Any of you know a way to make the installation start all over again or fix the current one so it completes?

Have any of you had success making a windows vista CD from a Upgrade Any Time CD?

Yes, the Vista installation is legit. I only deal with clients how have legit systems.

And a final yes, this will tech me to have ALL OS CD in hand :(

I've googled and binged but nothing I've come up has helped. I have even set the recovery partition is the active one. I boots into it but an unexpected error comes up.

Thank you for your help

You might as well just go and get the Vista CD's ... Obviously you need them lol .. As far as I'm aware theres only 2. A 32-bit and 64-bit. It depends on the Key to what version is installed (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Ultimate etc).

Yeah, getting Vista's CD will by my first objective. However, I need to fix this first, and I will probably will not be able to get the CD's first. I know I have delay and give the client a discount but I am trying to avoid doing that.

Getting Ultimate and removing ei.cfg is always choice. ;)
I'd say you're likely best off getting the cds for this one even if you don't wish to go that route first, you contradict yourself above stating your first objective is to get the cds and then saying you want to fix the problem first.
