I'm with you Rex.. it CAN work, and I think it would work well, it's the execution that will be the deciding factor.
My son loves these books "How do Dinosaurs.."
http://www.scholastic.com/titles/dinogoodnight/
The Dinosaurs depicted in the book are in place of the child... kicking the back of the drivers seat, making messes when eating, not doing chores, etc..
It's a cute series. I think that you could easily have a logo in which the Dinosaur is dressed as a tech and wearing some reading glasses.. you know, like a professional dinosaur
With all seriousness, all joking aside, I think your idea is sound.. and like you have said.. do not "give up" on the idea. But please don't go with what you have now.
There's a fine line between memorable and weird, and the current logo as presented is weird to me. When marketing and doing logos like this there should be a "reason" for everything in the logo... or at least a reasonable reason LOL! Let the customer figure the reason, right or wrong.
When I look at the logo I see:
*Something wrong with the color of the words... it's too much "basic" color I guess; it just doesn't pop.
*I wonder why the TRex is eating "ech" from Tech
*I wonder why the Screws are in the TRex??? I think you did it to add a mechanical/techiness to the dino, but it fails for me. Don't like them. Flat-head screws are for wood!
If the TRex is supposed to be THE "High Tech Rex"... well, I would like my computer back without teeth marks!
