What do you think of this idea?

We are always trying new things to spice up our web site. We have been thinking about some type of "Technology Theme" and the best thing we could come up with was this: http://www.mycompumore.com/technology/

We would add this to the home page of our site... Just wanted to know what other's thought of this idea. If we do incorporate this to our home page, when you click on a link or any where on the page... the ship would move around the page.

Just looking for some feedback.

Yeah, actually I really like mascots, and I think they can be a way for advertising media to be more 'inviting' to customers.

that said, its kinda hard to comment without seeing it on your actual site.

I guess my only concern would be that it is multi-platform compatible (ie wont cause glitches in different os/browsers/versions) and also that it doesnt detract from your existing ad copy.

If you are wanting to make the website make you money, the best thing I can suggest is to spend as much time as you have available looking at conversion principles and reading up on creating sales web sites.

People that have read a few of my posts in the past will no doubt be sick of me harping on about this, but the thing is, so many people miss the fundamentals, and they are what will allow the site to bring customers to you.

Looks great on the site.

I think its a given that your visitors will try to interact with it (by clicking on the image). Can you set it up to display a promotional message when they do that? (so that its working for you to do something other than just look nice)

Same here. The special of the day or a coupon would be a great idea. You also need to provide a way to get rid of it. It floats in the way of stuff that I might want to see.

Also this site doesn't seem to render properly on Firefox only IE.

i like it! works fine in chrome! also agree with the other posters about it possibly getting in the way. Though it didn't seem to stay in one spot long enough to worry about that, also like the idea of surprise coupons, ads, etc if you click on. Fun little easter egg type thing haha. Were you planning on it following you around the rest of the pages eventually? I noticed it didnt come with me to all the pages.

Working on adding a popup window with a printable coupon for % off on virus/spyware removal. As far as it following a user around the site, we're thinking we want it on just the home page... Not wanting it to be too intrusive.
