Had an interesting situation today.

Customer told me he took out his Windows 10 hard drive from his HP laptop and put it in a USB hard drive enclosure. Then he connected this to his MacBook Air and booted the system.

Nearly 100% functionality resulted.

With him standing here I recreated his assertion on another MacBook we had on the bench and it worked perfectly (the wireless driver was missing).

Must say, I was surprised at the results.

Since Apple went to Intel that has been the case for the most part. If you do it the official way, using the Boot Camp app to download the driver pack, it's flawless. Otherwise you have to use pci ven/dev route to get the missing drivers.

I guess it just never occurred to me to try such a thing...

Of course I use Boot Camp, but I always thought there was more "prep" involved in how it handles the Windows installation.

And this was a fully loaded OS, with Applications and User Profile... and it was virtually 100%.

Too bad the same thing wouldn't happen with the HP booting OSX (unless you turned it into a HackIntosh)!

Wouldn't that be sweet!

I've had no luck with all of my Hackintosh attempts. True, it's been a while, and the hardware I was using was always pretty sketchy laptops that had met the end of their days.
