Evening everyone

I have a remote client. They had purchased a new work lenovo laptop running windows 11. I set it up remotely after they logged into windows 11 using an office 365 account. Once I was done installing all their software, I disconnected.

Since then, they said they added a new ms account login to handle their personal files. The problem is they cannot log into the original office 365 profile I created. I have remoted in, and I am also unable to get into the profile. There is no way to log into the profile. It does not even appear on the list of users at the startup screen.

I have been trying to research it for a couple of hours but can not even seem to find any hits. Maybe my google fu is slipping. I have attached a few pics showing what happens when I enter the correct info on the login screen. Also have tried clicking the sign in to your work or school account. Any help on even where to look I would be appreciated

M365 logins cannot be Windows logins unless it's Windows Pro, and the M365 account has Azure Online P1 at least.

So honestly, I'm wondering what exactly you did.

M365 personal / family uses the same personal MS account stuff that Windows will integrate with for free. So yeah, you have to sort the login out at office.com, then worry about the computer.

It was a window pro machine

Also as a side note, no new profiles will show up on the login screen. Not even a new local account.

OK, and what M365 subscription is in play? Because again... you need specific ones. Basic and Standard both lack support for Windows Hello for Business. You need Premium or better.
I've got one account that is set up that way. They all use Microsoft 365 Business Standard. On a Windows 10 Pro computer I added them user as wiley@acme.com (their ID with the M365 Business Standard account). They can now sign in using their M365 password or a PIN that we set up for that computer.

Correct, but he cannot perform passwordless signon and make actual use of his authenticator. Nor can the account in question be used to access local resources that aren't in the cloud. You're right, it DOES WORK... it's just a pain in the rear and limited.

That being said, every day that goes by I wonder... with all this being cloud... do I care anymore? Because there are integration benefits to direct signin. I'll probably swap myself over to that signin when I replace this desktop.

When I setup computers for end users with AzureAD logins, the local user account I have for myself (as a local back door admin)...never shows up, I figure that's normal.

If I need to log into my local user account (let's say it's "CatMan")...and the laptops host name is "Cats-LT".....I'd log in with a username of cats-lt\catman

I think you can just do a period to designate a wild card for "local user"...such as " .catman" for the username...I can't remember.

Corrupt profile? Slave the drive, fabs the data, and nuke from space.
Yea. I think this is the best option.
Might be @Rosco 's best bet, but I think he's remote only on this problem.
Since its a new pc nothing is on it luckily. Will be easy to walk the client through resetting windows 11.

Will check this out before i reset windows.

Thanks everyone for being so helpful. I am hoping to be on here more now. I have been dealing with tons of back issues over the last few years. I have been doing better lately and able to get back to growing my business instead of just dealing with exisiting clients. My wife has even joined my one man band to handle all the scheduling phones and bookkeeping. It has been a huge help.

I can confirm that yes, you can login with Azure AD without the larger plans. I just did it to myself. I can also confirm that when that happens the Welcome Screen only holds the last login to click on. So I cannot just get at my local user without doing .\username.
