Laptop here WORD 365 crashes on Save, SaveAs or Options. Does not have MB on it, had AVG removed it same issue.
Every other 365 app is fine.
System and 365 are upto date, no matter what always spinning wheel.

Anyone else here experienced this or it's N&P time.

TIA

Nothing in logs - repair does nothing. I have been on it for two hours now.
Running DISM and SFC atm, then going to clean all files and reregister etc.

It is only Word - very odd, no add-ins either.

Your description suggests that it's hanging and not actually crashing, which could be a problem enumerating the default save location. Is it pointing to somewhere strange?

If you can't get to this in Options then I think you can find it in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Word\Options\Doc-Path. If that all looks OK then killing it with fire might not be such a bad idea after all.
Odd I dont even have that Doc-Path "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Word\Options\Doc-Path". On the laptop or my own system? Sorry yes meant hanging, I just kill the process.

Did you try on another user profile? You could try renaming the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Word key in the registry and let Word recreate it see if that helps.

I tried that, I cannot even seem to create another profile, the screen flashes a small grey box for a second then disappears? I then added an admin user via CMD.

The client is using the MS Account for login and 365 as well. I renamed the word entry in reg, still does the same.
I checked event logs and seen this error \winword.exe (pid 89888) cannot be restarted application SID does not match Conductor 10.

The client is using this 365 account across other systems with no issues at all. I have never come across anything like this. Check this weirdness out in control panel - icons missing?

No real way of testing the M.2 card. All I can do really is check with CDinfo - and the S.M.A.R.T test is ok as is read/write test. It doesn't do anything else abnormal just the word and control panel issue. So what I am doing is creating an Image and putting that onto another ssd to rule out hardware.

EDIT: Well ended up nuking, all is working as per usual now. Unsure what it was, but had me stumped.

Keep an eye on that one, because this is the sort of thing failing SSDs will cause before they actually die.

One day it'll simply... stop.

But it's also possible you had a feature update go horribly wrong, or have malware, or any number of other things. That's the trouble with junk like this, you're never really sure.

The SSD is only three weeks old a brand new system client had built elsewhere at a shop. I think it may have been the feature update - maybe 20H2 unsure. Though has been fully updated now, backed it up twice (thats just me) with FABS & Macrium and putting the Macrium on for the client for future use.

Cheers all!
