Workgroup - Internal Email System

I support a building company that has a Workgroup Windows XP Pro Server, with about 7 Vista & Windows 7 Clients.

Currently the users in the admin office use pop3 email clients for routine emailing to customers and each other in the office.

They have enquired if it is possible to install some form of economic internal email system, in order that they can easily and quickly send messages to each other in the office without having to use the pop3 system.

I am aware of a number of offers on the Internet, but would greatly appreciate advice from any forum member that may have been asked to supply and install a similar facility.

We not not want to go down the expensive route of installing domain controllers and Exchange server for such a system that will only be used for quick snappy and routine messages between admin office users.

Thanks in anticipation of receiving your thoughts on this one.

I use hMailServer which is free and suits my needs perfectly. It can support POP, IMAP and SMTP.

Check it out http://www.hmailserver.com/

I currently have it running on my Windows Home Server box.

Quick messages without using e-mail is called Instant Messenger.
Take your pick.

Thanks TLE - I will have a look at that one - The company has a new manager and he specifically wants an internal mail facility, other than Instant Messenger. That was the reason for asking. They do not want to use the POP3 facility for internal messages.

Don't knock the enquirer!
