4th Gen Ipod Touch Issues after screen replacement

I replaced a cracked screen on a 4th gen ipod touch (a1367). For some reason, when on the home screen, the digitizer does NOT recognize any touch on the top row of apps. If I touch an app on the top row, it recognizes it as the app below. Now the kicker! Once I open an app, I can touch in the same area at the top and it recognizes it as normal!!!???!!! I did a complete restore as I was thinking it was a software issue since it worked on apps, just not on the home screen.

Any ideas? Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?

One thing I haven't done is get another screen, but I'm feeling like it's not hardware if the touch works when inside an app. If it was hardware, it wouldn't work at all on anything right?

On the lock screen, click and drag the camera slowly to the top, then from right to left as well, then if it jumps at any point then you know you have a hardware issue

Thanks. I tried that and just about every time I got halfway up, the screen would jump back down. Looks like it is a hardware issue. Got another one on order. Will post when complete.

Have fixed around 70 of these in the last year or so, I'm fairly confident a new screen will solve it for you
