Last night a PC i was cleaning up will not longer boot and shows blue screen 0x000007b.
I just started the cleanup, here's exactly what I did:
1. disabled startup items with msconfig,
2. Turned-off system restore
3. Scanned system with Malwarebytes (found 7 infections)
after restart system will no longer boot, restarts as soon as Windows logo appears, diabling "automatic restart on failure" shows Blue Screen with error code 0x0000007b.
I ran chkdsk /r which did not help, ran fixmbr which did not help.
My thinking it could be a bootsector virus or the infection that malwarebytes cleaned up was a system file or important registry entry.
I'm little puzzled because if it was missing file wouldn't i get "cannot start because file is missing...." not a 0x000007b blue screen which by the way could mean 10 different things.
worst thing is, system restore is turned-off so no way of going back in time!!
Any idea for a quick fix to this blue screen, I dont want to nuke and pave, as this computer has a lot of stuff.
I will try to repair-install see what happenss, but that means have to backup before doing it.
