Hey Folks,
I have my business listed in google places (or google local as it seems to be called now). However, I noticed that when looking at Google maps recently, my business isn't listed as being in my building (We are located in a small plaza with 2 buildings, 2 businesses in each building.) The other 3 businesses are all shown with an icon on the building, but we are not. So if you zoom in on our plaza, you wouldn't even know we were located there. (unless you specifically types in our business name to google maps, then it shows us being located in the street).
I submitted an error report to move my location from the street to the building, I received a response a few days later saying they made the change. But looking at google maps, we are still being shown in the street (not in our building)
I filled out another form to fix the incorrect info. and actually received a response (from a human!). Asking me some questions about where we should be located. I gave him a screen shot and explained the problem. He responded today saying that they can't change our location
their response: I definitely understand your confusion. The Google Maps system does change displays around from time to time, unfortunately there is nothing that we can do to make a specific name show in a certain spot. Just give it some time and hopefully the system will re-crawl the content of your page and associate a label for your business to your liking.
This sort of baffled me, why have a "report an error" function if you can't do anything about the errors? I noticed this error a few weeks ago, but no idea how long it's been this way. I'm not very confident in waiting for it to "fix" itself.
I dug deeper and discovered that in our plaza with 2 buildings, our building actually has 2 addresses, (ours at 494, and the market next door listed at 492). While the other building only has 1 address (they list themselves as 496 #1 and 496 #2 for mail delivery).
So I'm guessing the problem here is that google maps can't have 2 addresses at the same location. so the market at 492 gets their icon in the building, the other business in the other building at 496 are listed, and since we are at 494, we are in the middle and for some reason get placed in the street.
What boggles my mind is that this building has been here for 30 years, we've been here for almost 9 years now and this seems to have happened recently (I'd say sometime in the past year).
Any idea on who I might be able to contact to try and get this resolved?
