As you may have seen on the Technibble front page, I wrote an article about iPhone applications for Computer Technicians.
The iPhone is my personal weapon of choice but I know that a huge amount of Computer Technicians use Android based phones.

What I would like to know is what are your most used Android apps as a Computer Technician?

On Google G1:

WiFi Analyzer
whois
connectbot
pTerminal

SIPdroid
Voice recorder
Barnacle Wifi Tether (with Universal Androot)
Toggle Widgets (bluetooth, brightness, wifi & GPS)

AndNav2!
Mapweasel

Fdroid
Task Manager
Open Manager
ES file explorer

Hello,

I for one have a Sprint HTC EVO 4G. It has become an invaluable tool for my business.

I use the following on a regular basis:

androidVNC - VNC Client
CifsManager - Directly access network shares
ESFileExplorer - File browser that also supports network share discovery
Google Googles - Take a picture of all sorts of things and perform search. Works great for barcodes (LCD cable replacements found quickly with a picture for example.)
Google Navigation - To find the customers house
PDF Viewer
Shark - Wireshark like application
Square - CC transactions
TeamViewer
Wardrive - Finds and logs Wifi stations with GPS
Wireless Tether - Rooted android phones only - allows for Hotspot capability for any Wifi enabled devices.. and no extra fees.

Sincerely,
Aaron

Google Googles

For some reason, I thought that was a really funny mistake. :D

Here are the apps I use/like that haven't already been mentioned;

Chrome to Phone - Send URL to your phone automatically
ChromeMarks - Access your stored Chrome Bookmarks
CamScanner - Use the camera to "scan" to a pdf

Irssi ConnectBot - irssi client
Penetrate - wireless signal scanner
Wifi Hotspot - Stock hotspot app, great for when client's internet connection is down.
Dropbox - all my invoices are stored here.
Evernote - job notes etc

Dont know if you can do this with the I-phone, but I can download drivers to my phone and transfer it via usb to the client computer. ex. Network Drivers

For Computer Repair I use:

Logmein Ignition
Teamviewer V6
Dell Service Tag Scanner-(checks to see if its under warranty)
Easy Tether
Square-Up

HTC EVO 4g

Newegg Mobile
Google Goggles
Ebay Pro
Bookmark Manager Pro
Dropbox
EasyFilter (Call Blocking)
TapaTalk Pro
Touchdown (connect to Exchange email server)
Document Scanner (camera to PDF)

+1 for WiFi Analyzer

Otherwise I mostly just use it for communication.
I have my RMM send an SMS message if a site goes down and I use Handcent SMS for messaging.
I use the Gmail app as my primary email app to access my Google Apps account.

Oh, and Google Maps Navigation for GPS getting to new clients.

Also, MileBug for tracking milage and DoggCatcher for listening to podcasts on the way there.

Terminal Emulator - Just a terminal for rooted phones
Wireless Tether - Allows rooted phones to tether wirelessly
Google Voice - Let's me easily make calls from my Google Voice number
PocketCloud - Remote Desktop application (FREE and used RDP so no software need to be installed on the machine, the port just has to forwarded/opened)
PC Monitor - Monitor a machine with the server software remotely. View stuff like CPU/Memory/HDD usage. Open up a command prompt, view processes/services, etc.
1 VPN - Allows one-click VPN access. It takes like 10 clicks to connect to a VPN through the standard software; this is a one click widget.
Wake on LAN - Sends Wake-on-LAN packets. Used in conjunction with 1 VPN to awake a computer on my home network. PC Monitor can also do this, but only with the paid service.
Torrent-FU - Remotely manage torrents.
RemoteDroid - Nifty little app that can send mouse movement and keyboard commands over the network to a machine running the applet, allowing your phone to act as a wireless keyboard and mouse.

Excellent thread Brice!

  • Square Up (take credit cards on site)
  • Wi-Fi Analyzer (select least populated wi-fi channel)
  • Flashlight (always there when you need it!)
  • Google Nav GPS (get to the appt on time)
  • Google Calendar (for scheduling appts)
  • K-9 Mail (pop3 business email)
  • Logmein Ignition (wowzers)
  • Super Caller ID (caller ID)
  • T-Mobile Tethering 4G Wifi Hotspot (pretty trick app)
  • T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling (when I'm stuck in a basement with no cell signal)
  • Newegg Mobile
  • Ebay Pro

Does anyone know if Square works in the UK or does it treat transactions as overseas. Being able to take credit / debit cards remotely is going to be very important because the banks here are planning to stop using personal cheques.
