Fab's AutoBackup 6 Pro - a must have tool for techs

The only thing that I would prefer at the price point is branding.
Mine is branded.

@Your PCMD @fabs is on the boards here. If you have any comments re the program, then have a word with him here. Same applies if you have any comments or concerns, or possible additions for the program :)

@Cadishead Computers it was meant to be a joke, hence the :) at the end. I will be buying the program soon. And yes, it is a great bit of kit and I am sure I will make my investment back the 1st time I use it. The only thing that I would prefer at the price point is branding. People ask this a lot and I just scratch my head. Why do you need branding? This is an internal tool you use to do your job. Not something that is facing the customer. Who cares?

I was thinking the same thing, but if onsite it is kinda nice to have your name on tools, though I don't think it's a priority by any means.

@nlinecomputers I know branding isnt a big deal, but as @Slaters Kustum Machines said, its good for onsite - I am about 95% onsite - mobile with a fully stocked vehicle. Again, its MY OCD. I love branding, and I may not have been 100% clear in my means of branding. To me, changing the font, colors, etc. is not as important as the background image. I use a very specific color scheme/background image in my signage as well as my business cards and I like carrying that over to the tools I use. Like for PStart, I have a specific background image, I would love it if Fabs would have something like:

BackGroundImage=<path>

Where path would be in the same place as the exe itself. But I digress, like I said, its my OCD for continuity.

Adding the ability to change colors and title required a lot of work. I never saw the background image as a problem since it is quite discreet. Obviously I am wrong with that. I will see what I can do with such request but I am afraid the result will not be that pretty.

Ok, I get it now. I just purchased Fabs. Oddly, when I first started it I accepted the EULA and it wrote an .ini file to my desktop. If I delete the file it asks again for me to accept the EULA. If I leave it on the desktop it doesn't. I prefer a relatively cleans desktop, so how can I have it write it someplace else?
Could you right click it select properties tick the checkbox hidden thats in the atributes and then apply?

The advice that's always given on Project Runway (my wife likes it!) is that you should stick to your aesthetic as a designer. Pretty good advice.

If you think it's a bad idea, don't do it. The customer is not always right.

I spent years in software development and the single most important thing I learned was that once you add a feature you can never remove it because somebody, somewhere will build their business around it. If you don't put it in you'll never have to maintain it.

Also fabrice, think of how many clients of yours is techs, who have put this request to you. Versus the amount of sales you have made.

If you have sold day 100 copies and 20 people have asked for something. Then it's worth considering. But if you have sold 1000 and 1 person asks. I'd put it on the back boiler.
A very few people asked for it so far. This cannot hurt anyway, so, I can try. If the app looks ugly with custom graphics, then it is not on my business anymore

To branding addicts : I am almost ready to release an update that has the ability to load a custom PNG logo. 180 pixels PNG images with 180 pixels height give the best results. Here is an example of what you can get using a PNG graphics file with transparency Capture1.PNG Capture2.PNG Capture3.PNG :

The update is online :
Software : Fab's AutoBackup 6 Pro
Version :
6.4.2.27328
Date : 06/21/2016

Added :

- Still in order to make a better product, error reports now gets OS kind (32 or 64bit), CPU brand information, total physical memory, available memory when an error happens.
- Updater module's behavior has been improved.
- Ability to add a custom logo: put a "logo.png" file in the program's folder and it will be loaded at startup. 180 pixels height PNG files give the best results.

Fixed :
- In some cases, there could be duplicate entries in additional folder list in a restore job.
- The program could ask several times for adding public items to the current restore job
- When used from a USB flash drive, the program performs some jobs very well and someday it hangs and does not work any longer. This does not happen when using the program on hard drives or SSDs. This specific problem's cause is still unknown. This may be due to some 'autobackup.ini' configuration file corruption on the flash memory. Starting from this build, the 'autobackup.ini' file is copied to the temporary folder in on the current system drive in a first place, used by the program from there and finally copied back to the flash drive when closing. This should avoid such behavior. Feel free to send an inquiry to technical support if it still hangs on USB thumb drives.
Note for QuickBooks users : Some error reports received were about the QuickBooks license number grabbing feature with messages like "An invalid character was found in text content" or "Could not convert variant of type (Null) into type (OleStr)". If you are experiencing such issue, send an email to support.

It is ready for download now using the bundled update utility (the "A new version is available..." link within the program) or from your store's order history details.
