Fab's AutoBackup 6 Pro - a must have tool for techs

Hi @fabs what happened to progressbar when backing up data? Since updating to latest version it is gone.

I like to know how much data is being backed up and what the progress is.

Thanks

I still have it even if I resize the windows, so, I have no idea why you cannot see it :/

Here we go I did it on another Laptop machine. Actually my wife's Windows 10 laptop clean installed as well. Here is the screen shot, Window was also maximized. Previous versions I had no issues with this.

I guess you cannot see the information because of some branding : white text over white background. Can you please post your [branding] section form your autobackup.ini file ?

Interesting you say that now. I did change the background to white because my logo is the same color the default logo for Fabs.. Let me check that now.

@fabs

Thank you! That was definitely the issue. I had it originally white background and now changed it to black. Didn't think the background would be an issue except I forgot to factor in the text when the progress bar shows up.

Now with it changed to black the text is white so that is good.

Hi everyone, it has been a while since the last update. A new version has just been released:

Change log for V6.4.3.30491:

Added :
- Ability to use up to 3GB of RAM on 32bit systems and 4GB on 64 bit systems. This should limit the "out of memory errors" when there is a huge amount of files being copied.
- In order to help sorting out errors while getting QuickBooks license, the XML license file containing that information can be attached to the error report in a encrypted zip archive. The user is notified about this attachment and can choose to not send any file.
- If the copying data from a failing drive, files sometimes cannot be copied and lock the rest of the job. Now, when the program tries to copy a file, it will monitor the copy progress bar every 10 seconds. If it has not moved, then the file is probably on a damaged section and cannot be copied. In this case, it is skipped to the next file.
- Updated some Nirsoft utilities packages on the web server. This program version will prompt you for downloading them.

Fixed :
- The Microsoft Edge favorites check box could not be unchecked in backup or transfer mode.
- Files were not copied when there were a lot of excluded folders set on a system where they do not exist.
- 64 bit Nirsoft NetPass download was not working as expected.

Note : I know that NirSoft Wireless Key View 2.0 can work with hook drives now. This ability has not been added to this build yet. I have to play a bit with it before.
As usual, use the built-in updater tool or download the full package from your orders history at https://store.fpnet.fr/login.php

32-bit applications are limited to 2 GB per process regardless of whatever they're running on 32-bit or 64-bit systems, so these measures aren't going to help it.

Even though 32-bit application can theoretically allocate up to 2 GB, in practice applications might run out of memory before reaching that limit. I'm not sure why it happens but I think it might be due specific memory usage patterns that leave RAM interleaved with small used and unused sequences of bytes which result in Windows being unable to allocate a relatively big chunk of RAM.
I had to limit RAM usage for 32-bit version of Snappy Driver Installer to about 1.2 GB because some people were running out of memory when the limit was 1.5 GB.

64-bit applications don't have any limitations and should be used whenever possible but if Fab's AutoBackup was made without considerations for 64-builds, it might require a lot of work to get a stable 64-bit build.

I used this trick : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2740308/why-2-gb-memory-limit-when-running-in-64-bit-windows. I agree that this is useless for most of 32bit systems because the boot.ini file would not have been changed to handle such memory but 64 bit should be fine because they do not require to set anything else.

Hello, a new update is available. This one fixes a bad bug with the command line when using the /SILENT switch

Change log for V6.4.6089.33587 pro:

Added :
- Version number scheme changes due to development software change.

Fixed :
- The program crashed when using it from the command line with the /SILENT switch.
- Reduced memory use in case of large amount of files to copy. There are still things to do to improve that but this it is already worth to take it.

As usual, use the built-in updater tool or download the full package from your orders history at https://store.fpnet.fr/login.php

@fabs Why is the printers list greyed out? I can't get a list of installed printers anymore?
If there no local printers installed, the item is disabled. It looks for sub keys into the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Print\Printers registry key. In case of a hooked drive, if the system registry hive cannot be loaded, you will get the same result.
