Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro - a must have tool for techs

I had an issue the other day where I couldn't update on someone else's machine, which used to work fine. Something about not being activated, but it worked fine on my main desktop.
I didn't get any notification about not being activated...it just wouldn't open the updater, and I checked that it wasn't a hidden window. I solved the problem by copying the files from my main PC to the flash drive and it works normally again.

Was it a 'version' issue? We have had that happen before where we used an older version accidentally.

Hi,
Fab's AutoBackup 7 Home & Office and Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro V7.0.10.700 have just been released.

Change log:
Added:
- Warnings and dialog about folders redirected to a network share in backup/transfer mode: permissions on network shares could be altered. Users now have the choice between copying files anyway or skip network redirected folders.
Fixed:
- Excluded fonts list has been updated to reduce operating system issues while restoring them.
- To prevent issues, existing fonts file are not overwritten anymore when they already exist on target system, even if the program is set to overwrite every file.
- Any folder containing the word "cache" in its name is now excluded by default from Google Chrome like browsers backup/transfer. The cache folders list was hard coded but it looks like new ones are added to Chrome quite often so, transferring them could take ages.
- The program used to freeze for a moment at the end of a copy job if it had once been set so send logs and SMTP server was unreachable.
- To prevent existing shortcuts on public desktop from being broken (IE MS Office ones, can be others as well), the program will not overwrite them anymore, even if it has been set to overwrite any existing file.
- In backup mode, the program did not get the default Outlook profile's name when dealing with Outlook 2013 and newer. When restoring, it could not set it back as default profile. This fix avoids having to set Outlook profile as default manually.
- Mozilla family software (Firefox, Thunderbird, Waterfox, Seamonkey ...) profiles are now restored to the default folder in order to avoid copying them to a wrong place if original path does not exist on new system.

Grab it from your orders history's details on the shop's website at https://store.fpnet.fr/account.php?language=en or using the bundled updater tool (click the "Download Fab's AutoBackup 7.X" link within the program and get the updated files).

Forgive me if this is covered somewhere but I didn't find it searching. I ran a backup using fabs 7 the other day on a clients win7 machine. Went to restore to new machine today and noticed there is no "backup config file". I see no way to move forward with the restore using fabs without this file.

This file should be located inside "X:\Path_To_Your_Backup\YYYY-MM-DD\Computer_Name" folder. If it is really not there, you can create one at this exact place (or depending to your backup configuration, in the folder where you find folders like "User_Name_1", "User_Name_X", "PUBLIC".

Here is how the folders structure should look like :
Code:
X:\
|__[PATH_TO_YOUR_BACKUP]
   |__[YYYY-MM-DD]
      |__[COMPUTER_NAME]
         |
         |__[USER_NAME_1]
         |  |__[archive]
         |
         |__[USER_NAME_2]
         |  |__[archive]
         |
         |__[USER_NAME_X]
         |  |__[archive]
         |
         |__[PUBLIC]
         |  |__[archive]
         |
         |__Backup.conf
Here is a Backup.conf file content example :
Code:
[USER_NAME_1]
ArchivePath=USER_NAME_1\archive

[USER_NAME_2]
ArchivePath=USER_NAME_2\archive

[USER_NAME_X]
ArchivePath=USER_NAME_X\archive

[PUBLIC]
ArchivePath=PUBLIC\archive
Create this using notepad and save it as "Backup.conf". Beware of file extensions. You'd better make your explorer show known extensions, so, if you make a "Backup.conf.txt" file instead, you could easily rename it.

What can I get from this? I think I ran a Fab's backup on a machine that was used by a former employee. The boss wanted all the stuff off of it in case he needed it. Stumbled upon this data on a flash drive.

I think it might give me the autocomplete address entries. If so not sure how to restore it?

Here's a screenshot of the directories and the open .ini file.

Do you anticipate a new version (autobackup8) on the horizon?

I bought autobackup6 when it was onsale, use it a decent bit... thinking maybe I might like to snag a newer version, but would hate to pay for 7 and then have 8 come out soon after!

updates are included for 1 year (there is an option for a 3 years duration). Time is counted down from purchase's date. Once this delay over, the program will still work normally but if you want to update it or just download it again, you will have to purchase a new license.

You can't use this ini file directly. It's used by Fab's AutoBackup when it restores Outlook PST/OST files. Subkey values you highlighted are the ones that contain PST/OST files paths in registry.
If you want to use this Outlook data, you need to restore the backup onto a Windows machine.

Updates are for the version you purchased only? Or if I buy V7 and V8 comes out in four months do I get V8 and eight months of updates for it? Or will both V7 and V8 continue to be "supported" in conjunction for a while?

When V8 will come out, if update period is still valid for actual V7, then upgrade will be automatic

Thanks. I'm not worried about the ini file specifically. Just wondering what data might be in that folder structure that I can restore. My thought is is that it's the autocomplete address list. But the file is only 900 bytes, so wondering if there's actually anything in there.

It looks like there is no suitable data in those folders. All that I can see is reg and ini files. There are no .OST files and no "Stream_Autocomplete_0_32FA5075A3224C41B2600B869AB0BC43.dat" like file.
