I run into this a lot. Typical story goes:
IT Person: Help I cannot connect a computer to the network. It doesn't work.
Me: There are 600 connected devices at your location that aren't experiencing the same problem. What have you done to troubleshoot?
IT Person: <responds basically saying nothing or totally misses the problem>
Me: Just because you cannot reach the Internet does not mean that you aren't on the network. Most likely your device did not authenticate with 802.1x. Did you troubleshoot? Is the computer in the Domain? Did you run RSOP.MSC and check that the 802.3 policies applied??? Does the network adapter say "Not Authenticated" OR do we have a Bonafede connectivity issue? That's different!
