I think you buried the lede in that story. I'm going to want to know more about why someone needed a trap for a newly-adopted trap!
I adopted a kitten out to a woman who lived down the road from me and I told her NOT to let it outside, that it was a strictly indoor cat. So, of course, she let it go outside and needed to trap it. She didn't call until he'd been missing for 3 days. :( So I took the trap down there and she ended up trapping a huge rat instead.

We did find the kitty, after doing a thorough search of the property. He was sleeping up on a high shelf in her shed where the door was missing. I heard later she lost him for good. I really regret adopting Bailey out to her. He was a precious little guy and so cuddly. The saddest part of rescue is the people who mislead you into thinking they are good, responsible, caring persons.

When I was in cat rescue, a person needed a trap for their newly adopted cat. They called a day later. They had trapped one of the biggest rats I've ever seen....... lol

This is why I have never, and will never, trust anyone to look after my kitties...
I rescued and found homes for over 500 cats and kittens over 5 years. Most of them went to good homes, some did not. To find out, after the fact, the people were irresponsible made me feel so guilty. I know I can't save every one of them but I sure did try. Rescue can be heartbreaking but it can also be rewarding.
