Non Political COVID-19 virus thread

Last week our entire household got covid--both my kids were grocery workers and likely contracted it there. So...unfortunately I've been forced to shutter my business completely. Kids are doing fine but I'm up and down all the time. Oxygen levels all over the place. Covid is definitely every bit as unpleasant as they say!

Wear a mask...actually, two. You really don't want this.

But if the graph is already on the rise, likely in line with the continual increase with the number of tests, and there is no obvious anomaly spike in the numbers, one can't really blame it on Thanksgiving.

I don't know where you're getting your news but they are pretty damn sure that a lot of it was Thanksgiving and Christmas visiting. That, and two new strains that are twice as transmissible.

And yes, it was idiots spending time with extended family over both holidays. And at the beginning of the new year my home state got the high score! Is everyone sick of all this winning yet?

Yep. There are times when correlation does imply causation, and when it comes to transmissible diseases, "mixing and mingling" can be reliably traced as a significant factor in causation of actual infection.

I don't know why anyone would believe that the press, reporting on the statements of infectious disease specialists, is "making this up." Anyone who is, and has been, paying attention to the science, and the changes in actual practice based on new incoming data, during this pandemic knows that this is not "made up," though certain things are being tried "on the fly" and analyzed afterward because no definitive data as yet exists (or existed). When certain things that seemed to make sense in theory, but not in practice, are identified they are then generally dropped as recommended practice.

There's ton of stuff being tried on the fly and has been this entire time. We've got a super cold here, not a flu... A COLD. With an R0 value approaching 5, and never in the history of mankind have we ever contained via any quarantine procedure devised anything with an R0 value greater than 2.5.

So yeah, there's a LOT of throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. Because we have a virus that kills ~2% of the people that get it and is frankly infectious enough to defy all containment.

But it's "fake"...

Dec 7th 1941 Japan hits Pearl Harbor and the US enters WWII.
August 9th 1945 US drops the 2nd nuke on Japan.

That's 45 months of time during which the US lost 418,500 people mostly military. That's an average of 9,300 people per month.

The COVID Pandemic officially began in the US on January 31, 2020. Today, it's Jan 21st, 2021, almost exactly 12 months later.

We've lots 406,000 people in that time. That's 33,833 people a month.

But it's fake...

Also, that's 1200% more people dead in a year than it cost us to kill fascism last time, and it seems we get to do that again too.

So instead of helping our doctors figure out how to come up with better quarantine processes, we're dealing with new fascists that fight revolutions with selfie sticks...

What the definition of "is" is indeed.
