Pirates Suck

Precisely. I don't know how techs can come on here and tell others to install some flavour of Linux onto a end users computer.

Yes Linux may be ideal for customers but because it looks different and runs different software most clients will be stumped and won't know how to use it.

While I agree that this would not be the ideal solution for everyone there is a % of people Linux would work for.

A lot of this argument could be used against the oil companies. They're out of control from the mideast to Houston to the Midwest. Prices are too high, therefore, it's OK to pump and run. The fact is using counterfeit software is stealing no matter what country you live in or how you want to justify it. I'm pretty sure most of us (if not all) has downloaded office or photoshop from a torrent site at some point. That doesn't make it right. I can honestly say that I haven't used a bogus copy of anything in a looooong time. That being said, I wonder how many here are running technet software on our laptops or installed on our mothers' machines. I'm sure no one since this is a public forum.

Microsoft has shot themselves in the foot because of all the stupid different licenses... I mean why have something like Office "home and student" and then another one called "small business" which is essentially the same thing (except for outlook), but one is like 4 x the price?

Oem licenses, retail licenses bla bla bla... look at Mac, whoever can buy it for 30 bucks and you dont even have to keep track of a serial key, make money by making good products not by complex licensing schemes..

I just went through the same issue. Though I made the wrong choice, and actually installed the pirated software, I know that if you install a Windows OS, it usually has a trial period of about 30 days. Within that time, you should be able to purchase a valid, legit XP from a genuine place such as TigerDirect, or Newegg.

P.S : I thank the people in one of my earlier posts who have guided me into making the right decision.
