Hey all!

I am having a Quickbooks issue at a new client. I will try to be as concise as possible.

- Two new installs of QB Pro 2015 (2 user license)
- Installed the hosted QB option on the computer hosting the QB files
- Installed standard install QB on client computer
- Ran QB file doctor on hosted computer, sees the files, added, no issues
- Hosting computer can open QB files fine
- Client computer can ONLY open QB files if QB is running on the hosted computer
- If QB is NOT running on the hosting computer, the client computer errors out attempting to open said files with the following errors: 1) Hosting mode is off 2) It also gives some errors about not being able to track to IP address 198.105.254.23 - which makes no sense, because the computers on a subnet of 192.168.0.x 3) it also mentions that MS Security Essentials is installed (which it is, dealing with that maybe sooner than later) and could be blocking access). It asks me to run QB file doctor on the hosting computer - which, again, I have done with no errors.

All of which makes no sense to me that it would all work fine IF QB is running on the host computer. I have talked with two QB gurus (not knowing so much about QB myself) and they all say that the client computer should be able to access the QB files without the hosting computer running QB at the time.

Let the brain power begin!

Is the QB database manager service set to start automatically on the hosting computer?

I have seen this issue with Quickbooks a few times. Once, I just opted to leave QB open on the hosting PC. One alternative to try (might not work) is to make a network share (on the host PC or a NAS) and store the QB files in it, and then map it on the client PC. I set this up a few years back and the network share worked (I just don't remember about QB being running on the host or not).

If Quickbooks does not get used locally on the workstation hosting the files (such as a dedicated quickbooks server)...only install the QB Database Server manager.
Full read/write permissions on the share.
Ensure clients can browse to that share...either UNC or mapped drive is fine.
Database server manager running, have it "scan" the folder that has the company files.
Double click the company files from the workstations via the share.

Full read/write permissions on the share.
In place

Set up and working
Database server manager running, have it "scan" the folder that has the company files.
I will be double checking that it is set to run on start up and running (can't image why it would not be)
Double click the company files from the workstations via the share. Been doing this. Again, only works if QB is running on the host computer

Also make sure workstation doesnt have qb database manager running too. Check services to see if it is and disable it if its there. Also on the one hosting i think you sign into quickbooks and then under file there is a menu option utilities and then hosting multi-user access. Make sure the host has this option on.
