Student version of Office 2007 Standard

This is the first time that I've come across something like this and I don't know what to do! A customer came to me with quite a serious problem with Windows which unfortunately required me to N&P. Before I did so I managed to retrieve the license key for Office 2007 Standard which was installed.

Now here's the problem, whenever I try to install office with this license key I receive "The key is incorrect". I've tried Home and Student, Standard, and Professional versions. After investigating it turns out that my customer (a student) managed to purchase a heavily discounted student version from this site.

Does anyone know of a way round this? Is there some other version that I need to download? Thanks in advance.

How was it originally installed by cd or digital download? Can't he/she give you/download the original?

Might be your issue but you say you've tried Professional, have you tried Professional PLUS?

I've found that they are actually two different versions, that Plus bit does actually mean something when it comes to keys.

I've found that they are actually two different versions, that Plus bit does actually mean something when it comes to keys.

When I purchased the heavily discounted version for University it was the Plus edition as that is the regular one they discount for the student

Martyn, my customer does have the CD, but only at their home address which is quite far away!

In that case they can load it when it goes back, just give them the key.

Based on the price...looks like a semi-questionable sale of a TechSoup open license subscription. Usually the Pro Plus versions are from TS.

I don't see anything that means it is a special student version. I could be wrong but I think it's just being sold at student prices if you can prove you're a student but is the same product as normal and doesn't have a special student-only licence code.

I've had quite a few clients buy all sorts of software on student websites at massive discounts but they've always licenced in the same way as normal - the licence key they get works on standard media for the product in question.

I'll admit that I'm not overly familiar with "student" and "academic" version of Office...but from what I've seen, I've only seen versions that will state...on the box package from Microsoft..."Student", or "Academic".

Microsoft blurb on student licensing...telling you which versions of MS products students are eligible for...I don't see Pro Plus

Any other "online source" ...I'd raise a questionable eyebrow to regarding interpretation of licensing. Similar to how you find "OEM" versions of Windows or Office..without having to purchase much hardware with it....if any....

Hmm.....yeah. I'd expect that to only be offered through the school Co-Op store (book store)...to students. I'd be wary about finding it through some "software discount house" on the 'web. I'm sure this is heavily abused and leans towards gray market.

Those types of licensing are usually "NFR" or "non-transferrable".

yes your right, you do need a "valid student ID" to prove you are a student to purchase it. and correct on "no you dont need a special licence" thats "just for students".
