Came across this free remote software 5 minutes ago so have not tested it as yet:

Supremo
http://www.supremofree.com/free-remote-desktop-features-en.aspx

Supremo is one of the best choice to remotely connect to another computer. Supremo is a complete remote desktop software freeware, and provides a lot of useful features to cover virtually any remote assistance need. It can be used by companies that makes remote technical support to their customers. In addition, Supremo can be used also to make presentations, because it allows multiple users to be connected at the same time.

Worth testing, just thought I'd point it out to others.. :)

The list of features is pretty limited. If you click on "more features...", it loops back to the same page.

Nothing about Reboot-into-SafeMode or Reconnect-on-reboot. I consider those two be foundational for remote support.

It looks and works like a TeamViewer clone. I set it up between an XP and Win 7 box. It does not require installation unless you install it as a service, like TeamViewer. Then it is available on reboot.
It seems ok, file transfer , and connection work as expected. I couldn't find a reboot in safe mode option, but it worked when I modified msconfig on the XP box.
It seems like they copied most everything from TeamViewer except the nag screen on disconnection. It's free to use commercially, and seems simple for a customer to set up.

I couldn't find much about the company, but they do have an interesting back up product for Vsphere and servers at uraniumbackup.com

Thanks, OP for posting this - it was decent of you to think of the community :")

My 5c, based on the comments above;

When I started out I experimented with a few 'free' and 'low cost' remote solutions.

I had some bad experiences with the time it took customers to get them set up, problems, troubleshooting... it just ended up annoying them (understandably).

I can see the cost appeal of free remote products, but these days I just use a paid system, which has always worked reliably for me and is easy for them to use.

Some of those customers from years ago, Im sure, still cringe when the word 'remote support' is mentioned. You cant undo a bad impression. Sometimes 'free' isnt worth it.

There may well be good free systems out there, but definitely worth proceeding with caution...

I have used it in the past and thought it was a good free software. Not a lot of options but handy for putting on a clients pc to help with small things that crop up. Never had a problem with it, however I was always on the phone with them when we start.

So, which one do you use Jim?

I've been giving Supremo a good work-out this past few days, to connect from a laptop in the study to my main system in the basement. It's really slow, especially compared with Ammyy Admin and LogMeIn Free -- all of which are very fast over my local network and when connected to a remote client. My original problems with Supremo were fixed in a later release, BTW.

I've found Ammyy Admin to be excellent, but you must be sure to set up the options and password in your customized module, otherwise you put the customer and yourself at risk.

Hmmm, running the installer does nothing at all on my system (Win7).

This seems to happen when you try to run it from a path that includes spaces. I was having the same issues and copied it to the root and it works now. You'd think this would be an easy fix.

EDIT: Larry, just saw your latest post. I'm guessing they've already fixed this issue then? Guess I'm a bit slow!

:)

I see they have released another program update (1.6.0, released 14-May-2012) that fixed some other problems I was having. Sure hope they concentrate on speeding it up real soon.

This looks interesting but how do they make any money from it? I would be wary of using a free, relatively unknown app for remote support. Who knows if it really is encrypted and what could be spying on either machine involved in the session. Of course this could just be my wild paranoia at work :)

Free always scares me, buy worth a try I guess. This is what I signed up with the forum to learn about, as we want to offer some remote support for basic support that comes up.

I am getting an error it says that my version is too old and that I need to update.

I am running the latest version 1.6.0 build 1311 and even went through the update process, still comes up with the same message and won't connect to the server.

anyone else having issues?

Been having the same update issue myself, after some recent testing - still don't know why it does this....? Can't fault Ammyy Admin though - yes you have to watch the configuration - passwords etc, but it seems fine otherwise. And the cost is soooo much lower than Teamviewer - can't really see why anyone would spend that much. (Except that it is considered the top of the tree for performance and features).
