I've got a client that has an 8 year old Xp machine that has Quickbooks 2001 on it. It will not run and display properly I assume because it isn't compatible with Windows Xp running IE 8. She wants to buy a Windows 7 PC and my accountant told me that she should not use 2013 and stick with 2012. He wasn't sure if 2012 could import that old a QB file. I haven't seen QB 2001 in about 9 years so I have no idea if it can be converted.

Anyone ever do that?

Haven't had to go that far back but it should be possible.
It will be a multi-step process however.
EG: you will first have to upgrade to QB 2007 then 2009 then 2012 type thing.

Are you a Quickbooks pro advisor?

Reason I ask is because you need to upgrade to 2007 first, then you can finish it up.

Last time took about 5 hours to process everything ... and pro advisors can get 2007 from intuit to do the job.

Alternatively if you know someone that has 2007 in the same version you should be able to do that.

Let me know if you don't have any help in that area.

Thanks but my accountant may have old copies that I can borrow and put on VMs to migrate this. I'll check with him. Was just hoping that I could do it in one shot. Figured that was pushing it. But you think 2007 can upgrade 2001?

Not yet, but I was looking for something similar on the Intuit site. I've got a client, an insurance agent, running XP and QB 6  He bought QB 2003, back *in* 2003, but never installed it.

Now looking to buy a new PC with Win 7 and wants to get the latest QB, and says he may just recreate his company file on the new system and enter all his ending balances from the old, instead of trying to do all the conversions.
