Windows 8 : Safe Mode (F8) changed :(

YES! Yes yes yes yes!

I just did number 4 on a Toshiba laptop with Windows 8.

Got to the logon screen.
Clicked the Power Icon.
HELD DOWN THE LEFT SHIFT KEY.
Clicked Restart while holding Shift key.
Held Shift key until the big blue screen of options appeared.
Jumped up and down like a crazy person with a big grin on my face.
:D

My script works as well. :) haha if you run it you can select legacy mode and have windows 8 accept F8 and boot like Windows 7 did. Or you can just force safe mode, then in safe mode run it again and revert to normal mode.

Cool, thanks.
I assume I'd need to boot off of a Windows 8 disc or WinPE disc to run this.

Nope! Put it on a usb stick. It is a cmd file, you can drop it on the desktop and right click run as admin. ;) it pops up a little menu and does its work right from in windows.

Okay. I think d7 may have these commands built in.
The thing is, most times when I need safe mode is because I can't use or get into normal mode. And those times Windows 8 isn't clever enough to recognise there's a problem and offer that option.
So, if it can be run from USB, while booted from a WinPE or Windows 8 boot CD, assuming you can specify the target OS, that would be great.

You can always go to msconfig on Windows 8 and set to boot in Safe mode the next time you try to log in (I Love Windows 8)

Well except that most of the time when you need safe mode it is because something has fraked up normal mode so that you can even boot or get to msconfig.

Any new ideas to implement? I've got a machine running Windows 8 that's bluescreening at boot. So needs to be accessible from a non bootable system.

Cheers
