Compaq Presario CQ60 - Win 10. Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 sound. An older laptop. but it is still serving this elderly client well, so they don't feel the need to upgrade.

Having an issue with the audio driver continually uninstalling. This was working fine under Win 10 for several months, until just recently. When I attempt to reinstall driver, I get "digital signature for the drivers required for this device" message. So, I reboot, disable the driver signature enforcement, install driver & all is well...

until next boot, where I am greeted with a red X on the volume icon again. I cannot seem to keep these drivers installed. Any ideas?

Have you tried installing the drivers in "compatibility mode?" Try running them for the OS that came with it originally. Win 8.1 or even Win 7.

Edit: Make sure you completely remove the drivers first!

is it installing the right driver? I can imagine Windows 10, in it's infinite wisdom, insisting on installing the wrong driver then after boot complaining the wrong driver is installed. That seems a really Microsoft thing to do. See what SDI thinks. It may be able to offer a later version of the driver.

Thanks for the assistance, guys. Turned off driver updates, I'd already changed the metered setting previously. Looks like the compatibility mode setting did the trick. I used to know that one, lol. Havent used it in awhile, so I guess I forgot it.
