Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro - a must have tool for techs

That can go both ways for us users. Time will tell. But for @fab's it is a big break for him good work and congrats.
Well I would fully expect development on Autobackup to slow down for a little while, while Fabs finds his routine. But, from my own experience as a full time developer, it was still fun to come home in the evening and work on my own projects.

Hope a compensated one. [emoji4] You have a family to support. More money coming in is always a good thing as long as the family does not suffer.
They'll offer me more visibility through their products and this will not cost a penny to me.

Hi!
Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro V7.0.7.300 has just been released.

Change log:
Added:
- For RMM (Remote Monitoring and Management) software users: the program now writes events to the Windows Applications Events log. This should help monitoring jobs using such software. See the user's manual for event IDs meanings.
- New option in the "autobackup.ini" configuration file to prevent session settings from being saved and used for next job. Add a "DoNotSaveSession" value under "[CONFIG]" section and set it to 1 then settings like additional files and folders or exclusions selections will not be kept and reused for next job.
- Ultimaker Cura 3D printing software settings handling
- In backup mode, the job summary now shows the storage location and its free space. In case of doubt, this avoids to come back to see what it is before launching the copy.

Fixed:
- When backing up or transferring Outlook data from a downgraded Outlook machine. Example: there was a working Outlook 2016 that has been unistalled and replaced with Outlook 2010 instead, the program got the account settings from Outlook 2016 (the newest) instead of the ones from Outlook 2010. Now, the program gets the version of the currently installed Outlook first and then focuses on its settings.
- The file copy progress bar was not working anymore while copying files over a UNC network path.
- The default browser detection method has been improved (thanks to Alex from Malwarebytes for the trick). Now the various pages and html logs open in the right browser.

Grab it from your orders history's details on the shop's website at https://store.fpnet.fr/account.php?language=en or using the bundled updater tool (click the "Download Fab's AutoBackup 7.X" link within the program and get the updated files).

Hi @fabs Thanks for the latest version although I'll stick with the older version for a while.
Will we start seeing a "Malwarebytes" influence on Fabs Autobackup - now that you have a "collaboration" - like ads for MBAM, prompts to install Malwarebytes etc?

Also I would like to share my thoughts on a idea I had yesterday with the restore part of Fabs Autobackup.
Instead of just giving a list of installed software it would be great if Fabs actually prompted you to install the software that was in that list by providing live download links that could be simply clicked to install them.
The prompt would appear before the restore button became active perhaps? Or maybe a prompt to install the needed software with a "Skip this step" button if it's not needed.

Too many times I've run the backup then realised that Garmin, Chrome or Skype etc was missing then have to install them and run the restore again to copy over the profile etc.
Thanks

Are you suggesting he create and maintain a database of where to download every program ever created that could possibly be installed on someone's machine? A bit unrealistic don't you think?

@add - My preference is that the installed software list show up in the archive so you know ahead of the restore what is there. (or is it there and I missed it? - @add - I missed it - it's in the Public archive....)

I am sorry that you still want to stick to the older versions since new ones are not more complicated to use. I fought hard trying to understand this statement but never succeeded. Whatever I do, I feel like this is a lost fight so I am done with this. I am just sorry for that.

Absolutely not ! This collaboration is just me providing my tool that will be embedded in their toolset as an additional value. I would still be in charge for my tool sales. It will just bring me extra exposure and that's great. I do not need to push their products, they do have much more marketing power than I will never have.

Well, this looks like a difficult thing to add. Beside this, I have not seen any chrome install after a restore that could blow up any restored profile... If that's really a concern, nothing prevents you from opening software list from the backup, install software and finally restore files.

Oh come on! That's not what I meant. What your stating is unrealistic...
Most people have Chrome, FF, Skype, VLC, and other "common" software etc which would be helpful to be prompted to install before restore.

Geez, Fabs don't take it to heart, please...
It's my choice to use the older version, not yours and as long as I've paid my fee it shouldn't be a problem.
I probably will use the "new" version but not yet.
I'm only one of [probably] thousands of Autobackup users so don't stress over it.

I never said it "blew up the profile."

Which I do anyway...
That is all. I'm out.

I think this is a good idea.

I don't think links are absolutely necessary though (I suspect they would be a lot of work to maintain) but a simple list of installed and affected programs could be offered as part of the backup/restore report.

Sounds like you guys want to mix in a touch of Ninite with it.

Arruuu?? That list is on the desktop of every restore. I mentioned above it would be nice to see it before the restore but it's not really an issue.

@add - Frack! I keep forgetting it's in the Public archive - pffft!
