Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro - a must have tool for techs

Aloha Fab. Ran Autobackup Pro 7.10.1.5745 to backup data from a Win 11 system. Everything worked, but I noticed that Quickbooks Pro 2019 was missing from the Installed Software list. I ran AB on a Win 10 system with an image of the Win 11 drive mounted. Not sure if the mixed windows levels would be an issue.

Also, the Quickbooks license key file mentioned a few posts previous to this one is in the 'Public' export folder, but does not show up on the desktop, but the Installed Software List and Printers List folders are there on the desktop There is not a 'Reports Storage' item in autobackup.ini.

Not sure what documentation you will need to investigate, but I have an image of the system I can mount as a drive to run Autobackup again if you need me to.

If Quickbooks does not show up in installed programs list, it means that it did not either show up in Windows add/remove programs list. This is what Fab's harvests.

About the QB license, the file it's looking for is "C:\ProgramData\Common Files\Intuit\QuickBooks\qbregistration.dat". Is it there ? If not, then it's normal that it could not find it.
If the file is there, then do you have it in the backup and it did not copy back to the desktop or is it missing from the backup ?
If it's missing from the backup, then yes I'll need to access that drive to find out what happened. If I could remote in a machine with that image mounted, that would be great.

Let's continue via email. I've sent you a message on this site with my email address. I will update this thread with the results of your investigation.

I've found out why QuickBooks does not appear on the installed software list. In order to not get flooded with Microsoft updates that would also show up here, I've set it to ignore anything that contains the word "kb". Guess what's in quicKBooks ???
So Fab's has never ever listed QuickBooks in this list. No, I need to find a way to let anything but MS updates pass through.

Maybe maybe not. I can trick the thing by looking for '(KB' instead of just 'KB'. It does the job perfectly ;)
Unless you have any Visual Studio updates or Visual C++ Redistributable installed - all of these are described as "KBnnnnnn" with no leading "(". I suspect that there are other edge cases too.

This is the kind of thing that makes software development fun (and one of many reasons why I no longer do it for money).

(Edit: Added note about VC++ Redistributable, which is far more common than Visual Studio.)

Humm, good point. So it's not that good finally. Let's go back to find something better

Thanks. Problem is that I'm forced to use Delphi 2010 and this one does not have the regular expressions unit. I have to use matchesmask function instead.

That's not a bad thing - matchesmask is rather nice for something like this.

If it were my code I'd probably try matching against "*KB[0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9]*" and hope that lower number KBs no longer exist in the wild, but I wouldn't put money on that.

Hello,
Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro and Fab's AutoBackup 7 Home & Office 7.11.0.5812 have just been released.

Here is the change log for both versions:

Added:
- PRO Only: Ability to disable features that require PowerShell scripts (VSS snapshots creation feature, BitLocker key handling, Nirsoft tools whitelisting from Windows Defender). This has been added for users who cannot whitelist the Fab's AutoBackup executable and have their anti-malware trowing alerts about PowerShell scripts it tries to run.
Of course, the affected items will not work if this option is enabled. If you really need to disable PowerShell features, then add the DisablePowerShell=1 value under [CONFIG] section in the autobackup.ini file.
- The program now handles local Windows policies (set with GPEdit.msc).

Fixed:
- The program did not follow folder junctions (symbolic links). Now, only the ones containing "application data" characters remain ignored to avoid some weird behavior while processing paths like "X:\users\UserName\AppData\Local..."
- Quickbooks did not appear on installed software list export.
- Job log was saved in transfer mode even if it was set to never be saved.
- Pinned Explorer folders item showed grayed out at restore even if it was in the backup.

Grab it from your orders history's details on the shop's website at https://archive.fpnet.fr/account.php (ordered before May 1st 2022) or https://store.fpnet.fr/en/order-history for newer orders. You can also use the bundled updater tool (click the "Download Fab's AutoBackup 7.X" link within the program and get the updated files).

This is likely NOT a Fabs Autobackup issue...

but when I try to do a backup on my wife's system it wants to download all her iCloud photos instead of just doing the thumbnails. Now I'm not opposed to getting the full versions for my backup but I'm thinking it shouldn't do that by default?

I'm using the latest version of Pro 7.11.0.5812

PS. ICloud for Windows is one of my least favorite programs. Constant thorn in my side!

I'm not familiar with icloud but I guess it may have a feature like OneDrive that downloads the files when trying to access one of them. If this is really annoying, you can disable that item using the defaults.ini file.

Anyone else having trouble with Product Key retrieval? Fabs transfers are producing an empty Product Keys file, has happened on all recent jobs. I've also tried running ProduKey manually and had nothing found either.

While on the Nirsoft site to download ProduKey, I noticed another utility WinMailPassRec (for Windows 10/11 Mail app config & passwords). It would be very useful if included in Fabs:

Yes, I'll look at it. If it works from the command line, that tool would be part of the current email passwords item.
Thanks for the heads up

Humm, reading the product's page, it doesn't look like so. The only command line switches I see are to generate language translation files for it.
Fab's will not be able to drive it :/
Second stop is that it will not work if windows profile is logged on with a Microsoft account and that's often the case...
