Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro - a must have tool for techs

I have no QB license key here but the Produkey.txt file has just been restored to desktop like it was supposed to.
Edit : the QB license key has been restored to the desktop as well. So, I don't know why it does not work for you so far.
Can you send me your autobackup.ini file to fab [at] fpnet [dot] fr ?
Sent.

Well, I did not had any problem: both "produkey.txt" and "Intuit QuickBooks license key.txt" files are on my desktop when I restore them.
Perhaps I could remote in an affected machine on your end ?
I don't have one at the moment. I already finished and delivered the one I did today. I'll reach out to you next time I get a chance. Thanks

the QB license is not showing up on the desktop of the new computer nor are the license keys that should be backed up by nirsoft.
Product key utilities being blocked by antivirus?

When backing up or transferring using Fabs, I always need to disable the antivirus (including in Windows Security if another isn't present) to allow product key retrieval utilities to run.

That's happening at restore so, the tool is not called. The .txt file is just supposed to be copied to the desktop.
By the way, there's no third party tools involved in QB license extraction

Where are these 2 items normally stored in the archive? I can look to see if they are even there.

Hello,
Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro and Fab's AutoBackup 7 Home & Office 7.10.1.5745 have just been released.

Here is the change log for both versions:

Added:
- Pro only: Ability to select the "Keep only browsers bookmarks" box by default. For this, edit the "defaults.ini" file and set the "OnlyBrowsersBookMarks" value to 1.
- Installed antivirus software(s) are now in the installed software report's header.

Fixed:
- Pro only: If changes were made to the defaults.ini file while the program was running, they were overwritten when program was closed.
- The program could look frozen while installing drivers. Now, it shows what it is doing in background when running Windows 10 / 11.
- Drivers were not copied into separated folders at restore/transfer and it could lead to installation problems.

Grab it from your orders history's details on the shop's website at https://archive.fpnet.fr/account.php (ordered before May 1st 2022) or https://store.fpnet.fr/en/order-history for newer orders. You can also use the bundled updater tool (click the "Download Fab's AutoBackup 7.X" link within the program and get the updated files).

Aloha Fab. Ran Autobackup Pro 7.10.1.5745 to backup data from a Win 11 system. Everything worked, but I noticed that Quickbooks Pro 2019 was missing from the Installed Software list. I ran AB on a Win 10 system with an image of the Win 11 drive mounted. Not sure if the mixed windows levels would be an issue.

Also, the Quickbooks license key file mentioned a few posts previous to this one is in the 'Public' export folder, but does not show up on the desktop, but the Installed Software List and Printers List folders are there on the desktop There is not a 'Reports Storage' item in autobackup.ini.

Not sure what documentation you will need to investigate, but I have an image of the system I can mount as a drive to run Autobackup again if you need me to.

Mahalo,

Harry Z

If Quickbooks does not show up in installed programs list, it means that it did not either show up in Windows add/remove programs list. This is what Fab's harvests.

About the QB license, the file it's looking for is "C:\ProgramData\Common Files\Intuit\QuickBooks\qbregistration.dat". Is it there ? If not, then it's normal that it could not find it.
If the file is there, then do you have it in the backup and it did not copy back to the desktop or is it missing from the backup ?
If it's missing from the backup, then yes I'll need to access that drive to find out what happened. If I could remote in a machine with that image mounted, that would be great.

Let's continue via email. I've sent you a message on this site with my email address. I will update this thread with the results of your investigation.

I've found out why QuickBooks does not appear on the installed software list. In order to not get flooded with Microsoft updates that would also show up here, I've set it to ignore anything that contains the word "kb". Guess what's in quicKBooks ???
So Fab's has never ever listed QuickBooks in this list. No, I need to find a way to let anything but MS updates pass through.

Maybe maybe not. I can trick the thing by looking for '(KB' instead of just 'KB'. It does the job perfectly ;)
Unless you have any Visual Studio updates or Visual C++ Redistributable installed - all of these are described as "KBnnnnnn" with no leading "(". I suspect that there are other edge cases too.

This is the kind of thing that makes software development fun (and one of many reasons why I no longer do it for money).

(Edit: Added note about VC++ Redistributable, which is far more common than Visual Studio.)

Humm, good point. So it's not that good finally. Let's go back to find something better
