The main ones that would be useful are default browser and email client. These aren't set by file extension. Every browser reports whether it's the default or not so there must be a documented registry key for that.
The suggestion is to report these default apps, not to set them. I realise they need to be set manually, which is why I try and do it for my customers. Most have no idea how to do it themselves And unfortunately most are unable to accurately name their preferred browser or email app.
This feature would be useful precisely because the browser/email app itself can't set the default for them. It could be written to the Installed Apps report.
I find myself installing every browser that is listed in the Installed Apps report, then opening each one to figure out which one has recent history.
