Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro - a must have tool for techs

Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro V7.0.1.32393 has just been released.

Change log:
Fixed:
- The program could not locate the target Dropbox path in restore or transfer mode.
- 1 second tolerance has been added for copied files time stamps comparisons.

Grab it from your orders history's details on the shop's website at https://store.fpnet.fr/account.php?language=en or using the bundled updater tool (click the "Download Fab's AutoBackup 7.X" link within the program and get the updated files).

I used Autobackup 7 Pro to backup/restore files between a Windows 7 PC and a Windows 10 PC. All went well except for the Outlook 2016 nickname cache data; it did not restore. In the NK2 backup folder, I saw just a .dat and a reg file. Not knowing what to do with the .dat file, I loaded the reg file, hoping it might help but no joy.

The old PC had the account set up as POP whereas the new one is set up as IMAP. Both are using Outlook 2016 so the only NK2 file on the old laptop is from when it was imported into Outlook 2016 two years ago. Anyone else having similar problems? Any guidance?

There is no more nk2 file on Outlook. There is an autocomplete cache. This is that .dat file. It should have worked if you had restore the outlook profile like it was. If I understand well, you have set up an imap account instead of the original pop3. Since the accounts are different, the registry settings and the file are different too.
I have never come across that. I would proceed that way:
First, send an email to whoever you want for outlook to create a new autocomplete cache file.
Close Outlook. Open this folder in your explorer: "C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\RoamCache". Copy the newest "Stream_Autocomplete_xxxxxxxxxxx.dat" file's name to the clipboard, rename it to something like "Stream_Autocomplete_xxxxxxxxxxx.dat.old". Now rename the file restored by Fab's AutoBackup with the name copied in the clipboard.
Now, restart outlook and see if the autocomplete cache works as expected.
This is totally theoretical, I do not know if it will do the trick.

Hope this helps

Thanks Fab. I realize there is no KN2 file in Outlook 2016; that's just where you store the cache backup. The cache folders are in the backup, just not integrated into Outlook on the new laptop. I'll try your suggestion and let you know how it goes. I hope integrating the registry entry hasn't messed anything up.

I do not think so. This registry file is an additional key inside "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Perf\RoamingStreamsCache" that is just ignored by Outlook in your case. Harmless

It worked perfectly. I've discovered that the Address Book did not get migrated either. A quick Google suggested I just need to import a CSV of Contacts from the old laptop but that didn't fix it either. I need to Google the issue.

I would just import the PST but with just selecting the contact part if you do not want to include the messages.

That worked perfectly. The Address Book is now complete. Strange that importing the CSV version didn't work. Also weird that Contacts doesn't show up on his Favorites, only when you burrow down into the user profile.

Are you talking about the Windows contacts or Outlook contacts? You talk about user profile, so, it is a bit confusing ;)
If you are talking about Windows contacts, I have never seen them in the favorites.
If it is still about Outlook, I am afraid that the contacts will have to be added manually. Once again, this is a new profile, so, new settings.

@fabs, I succeeded in loading the Contacts by importing just the Contacts from the old PST file, as you suggested, so there is no further problem. I was just remarking that when I exported a CSV of the Contacts from Outlook on the old laptop and imported it into Outlook on the new laptop, it didn't work. In any case, all has been completed successfully now so thanks again for your help!

Yesterday, I ran into a new problem using Autobackup that hasn't been discussed yet, I believe. I re-installed Win 10 on a system, into the existing OS partition, but did a back-up of the user profiles first. When I went to restore the backup, there was insufficient free space because the old profiles had been automatically moved to windows.old during the re-install. (Profiles contained 850GB on a 1TB drive.) I had to do a move from the profiles in windows.old to the respective locations in the new profiles so I didn't double-up on spce used by the files.

I'm not sure there is a real need for it, but perhaps Autobackup could check to see if the profiles were saved in windows.old before attempting a restore, and using these rather than doubling up on space. There is the risk that the old profiles are stale-dated, I suppose. Anyway, I thought I'd mention it.

Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro V7.0.2.32469 has just been released.

Change log:
Fixed:
- The program could not deal with machines with customized default user profile: the detected paths from the registry were from the profile that has been used to customize the default profile.*
- There is no more forced system restart at program close when some users registry hives cannot be unloaded. Instead, there is a warning message showing the affected users profiles only if they are on the current running system and saying that logging in using one of these accounts is impossible until a computer restart.

* This issue affected Fab's AutoBackup 6 too. A Fab's AutoBackup V6.13.4.31602 maintenance update is available for download as well.

Grab it from your orders history's details on the shop's website at https://store.fpnet.fr/account.php?language=en or using the bundled updater tool (click the "Download Fab's AutoBackup 7.X" link within the program and get the updated files).

A "wish list" item for me would be a "Preview" button. I never know if I'm backing up 10 or 200 GB until I'm committed to the backup routine. I know this could be a lengthy delay while everything is indexed but it would be a used feature by me at any rate. I don't like surprises on backups. Just say'n.......

Most of what you're backing up is stored in the "user" directory. Right click and select properties and you can see roughly how much data there is. Unless of course your backing up Steam games as well.

Yeah I’ve been hoping this feature could happen.

Do you know there is already something like that ? When you launch the process, if there is not enough free space on target drive (if it is not a network path) there is a prompt message that says it, shows how much space is missing (then you can try make some room and continue) or change the backup path. Would you not think that's useless if the program is waiting for a click on some "yes I want to continue with this drive" if there is enough free space on it? The goal is to save time, not to let it waiting for you because you went away while listing a huge amount of files because that took a lot of time. Sorry but except for network paths, I do not get the interest in this...

Say I'm ready to back up and the imagined "Preview" is showing 384 GB to back up. I'm thinking WTF? Time to kill the backup and look around more and see what is taking up the space. Is this a movie/music collector or is it junk? As @Barcelona says I can look at the user directory and I may have to start doing that more. I never walk away from a FABs backup until the files are zipping by.
