Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro - a must have tool for techs

A glitch has been fixed in Fab's AutoBackup 7 Pro. V7.0.3.32624 has just been released.

Change log:

Fixed:
When the features "Keep folders dates" and "Show total size before copy" had never been used, their boxes were checked anyway but ignored. To enable these features, it was necessary to uncheck then recheck these boxes.

Grab it from your orders history's details on the shop's website at https://store.fpnet.fr/account.php?language=en or using the bundled updater tool (click the "Download Fab's AutoBackup 7.X" link within the program and get the updated files).

Feature suggestion...

I pulled my trusty FABS 6 out to move some stuff around today and realized that it won't restore Outlook's configuration unless the .pst files are restored too, and if the destination folder where the PST's came from wasn't in a standard place, it'll happily put them back in documents with no option to move them.

This is normally fine... unless you're using redirected folders... and you've got a 50gb PST to restore to a documents folder on the server...

Serious edge case however, the real fix here isn't really an update to FABs, but a brain transplant on the business owner to 365 his crap!

Had a quick question to see if we could save some time. Is there anyway (like in the .ini) to disable or just have unchecked by default a particular item? On every backup, we go in and uncheck the "Proxy" under IE as sometimes malware messes with this value and we don't want to move it over to a new install. If not no biggie :)

Hi,
There is nothing like that. I can be wrong but I choose to not add this to pro version since every machine can be different from another and missing something because it was unchecked by default is not an option for technicians.

as a "click next as-fast-as-possible" wizard, I appreciate this. I like being able to click through AFAP and just have everything back up. This is what makes FABs worth the money to me.

I agree too that I want AFAP. And just to clarify I wasn't suggesting that it should be off by default for everyone. I was asking if it was on a per item basis able to customize through the .ini to have a particular item off or disabled just for my local install. Like for example putting an "IE-Proxy=0" in the .ini. Not a huge deal to uncheck for our workflow. I just thought if there was a way to automate that that I didn't know already might as well :)

I just back everything up per the defaults. I open the backup and quickly delete unneeded things and then scan the archive for threats before I restore.

As a new user Can I ask a question about this? I don't change any settings. when I set up to do a backup, I just leave all the defaults. Is there any reason to check any of the additional boxes? If there was something there that needed to be backed up, wouldn't Fab's have found it?

Fab's only knows about default locations. If the user or software put's things in obscure places Fab's won't know to look there, for example, at the root of C:\

As to this, I would love to have a page where it scans the main C:\ and shows a list of folders that are not default in Windows 7/8/8/1/10 and lists them.

kinda like this:

what the C:\ would look like

I've assumed AV scans everything during the original transfer since it's done in uncompressed form.

This. You should also check the user folder for each folder. I've been caught by this; Someone storing stuff (Or apps will do it too) outside documents/photos/etc in the C:\Users\<user>\ folder.

Hey @fabs , on top of @Mr. Ingram's Computer Repair & Shoppe 's suggestion, could you also check the User folder for anything which is in the User folder that should not be, that will need to be transferred? I do kind of like his idea of presenting a dialog that shows all non-standard folders in both the root C: but also each selected User folder?

Well, that will take a while to add so much big features:
- backup/transfer presets
- unusual folders at c drive's root
- unusual folders in the user profile's root

I have an update almost ready to be released, so, I prefer release it as soon as possible. I guess for next Monday. Then, I cannot tell how long it will take for those additions.
